EDIT: Lol sorry for the long post
Hey welcome hope I can be of some help here. I will try to answer things in order for you. Just to let you know that all my experience with early mages came from PreRenewal so I will probally not have great advice for some early things.
Quests: The best place to look for any of these is irowiki.org in fact if you don't have that site already bookmark it now. I still use that site quite often. Unfortunately there are not a lot of quests for beginning characters for equipment, zenny and weapons and so forth. Other than the Eden quests you have pretty much gotten those done.
Equipment: Try to get a
Survivors Rod ASAP. They have a level 24 requirement but give the best Magic attack boost you can get from a Store Bought wand. They come in 2 different versions an Int one and a Dex one. They BOTH give Magic Attack +120, HP +300, Atk 50, also they give +2 to either Int or Dex. There are more advanced Slotted versions of these rods but don't worry about those for now. Generally speaking Int gear is better early on then Dex gear for magic classes.
Builds: You will want to give more info for people to give good advice here. Are you going Wizard or Sage for example would be high on the list. Generally speaking though you want High - Max Int and probably ~60 Dex or so, more if going Wizard though. The reason for this is that Sages rely mostly on Bolt spells which are pretty fast by themselves. Then Vit and some Luk would be good. Luk give perfect dodge, flee and Magic Attack bonus's.
Leveling: Mages really need to utilize elements to level well so we need to know what skills you have and how many levels you have in each. Now as a tip for a starting player a good Bolt to max no matter which build you make is Fire Bolt. The reason being that it's a prerequisite for Fire Wall which is EXTREMELY useful and almost mandatory to learn, It also helps when knowing which monsters you can fight. As a General Rule you want to try to fight monsters about 10 Levels above you. The reason being that if they are 10 lvls above you you get 140% exp and so level faster. Of course you can easily bend this rule if you find a particularly good place to level, monster drop, or no better monster to fight for that level. I generally stay on the same monster for 3-5 levels sometimes.
At your current level you want to try to fight level 30 monsters. I usually say at this point level 28-35 but don't go higher than 15 lvls above you as you will not get full exp. I have used a monster data base to find you some good monsters to hunt
Here. I limited this list to levels 28-40 so you can see ahead a bit. I also limited the list to Fire, Earth, Water and Undead element monsters as you will have element advantages and usually an easier time to kill. Fire & Water are good against Undead by the way but Fire usually better.
Also one thing to keep in mind with a Mage is that you don't usually want to fight aggressive monsters that will attack you on sight. The exception to this being monsters that can't move like the Hydra in the list. Hydra's have a wide attack area but you can cast from further than they can attack so they just have to take it. One other type of monster to watch out for is a "Cast-Sensor", these monsters are usually passive but if you start to cast a spell on them they know and will attack you. I left them out of the list.
For now you can see that Deniro and Piere might be good for you to hunt. Also here is a litte tip, Pick up there Worm Peelings as there is an NPC in AlDeBran that will trade you Red Potions for them 1 for 1.
Check under Trade NPC's
hereto find him.
Skills: Don't worry if you make a few mistakes early on here. There is an NPC in Prontera who can reset your skills for you until you hit level 40 for free. NPC's name is Mesmmerist and is located in the middle of town just north of the fountain on the east side of the tool shop.
With regards to your skills you need to make a decision if you are going to go Wizard or Sage by level 40 so you can reset your skills if needed. A Sage will Generally MAX all 3 Bolt skills Fire, Ice and Lightning. A Wizard on the other hand will usually max Fire Bolt and perhaps Cold Bolt but not Lightning as they get the better spell Jupitel Thunder ounce they change jobs. Also Mages should
ALWAYS go to job level 50 before changing to their 2nd classes. Here are some simulators to help you plan your skill paths.
