I was just thinking that battlesmiths should invest in int, moreso then just trying to round him out. I mean I think that having pretty high int would be good so that your sp pool is higher and you will have a better regen rate. Since raising str to 120+ sorta sucks now I would think its better to just be able to constantly use power max and power thrust etc. by giving more int. I am not sure if anyone can confirm this but is it possible to have enough int that you could counteract the loss of sp from power maximize?

Anyway, since str sucks ass I think int would be a good spot to put those points instead of heavy str at least imo.

The smith class is actually the class that gets the most use out of strength out of all the classes in the game. There's a modifier of 0.5% weapon attack per point of strength, so even though strength is 'nerfed' and it doesn't really matter for a non-trans smith, that line of thinking could hurt you as a Mastersmith/Mechanic when you gain access to weapons with the highest attack power in the game.

For a GX using a weapon with 150 attack power and 100 base strength, that's +75 attack, and eh, not really worth it.
For a mech using a Pile Bunker with what, 400-some attack power and 100 base strength, that's at least +200 attack and with megs and whatnot, pile bunker is comparable to a Giant Axe for HSCR.

And, the intelligence issue is really tricky and depends entirely on your gear (and build, if you're trans). I would say this is a bad idea though, because you should always be leveling at 50% weight or more, where regen is negated for maximum duration. If you can't afford the proper regeneration gears to make this happen (rideword, nyd, earth deleter), I would suggest not-gimping your character and work towards obtaining those gears instead, power maximize is only really effective once you can support it with gear imo. If you're trying to keep it constant through stats (with the abysmal SP pool of a blacksmith), you would probably get more killing power out of properly allocated stat points.

Just my opinion though.

Thanks for the reply Sera!

Are blacksmiths the only characters where str is still worth investing in?

why do I need to be at 50% or more weight when leveling? Is there a reason I don't want the regen?

They're not the only ones, but they're the ones that get the most out of it. Generally, although strength *is* nerfed, you will still want it on any melee character that uses high attack power weapons. I believe it is still worth it for Genetics and Royal Guards. And from my experience, Mado Mechanic does have some issues with weight limit.

And it's not so much a reason that you don't want the regen, it's more that like... how do I best explain this...
You should be getting your regeneration from items (HP) and gear (SP). Your natural HP/SP regen is very inefficient, and while it is acceptable at lower levels, at higher levels it is not practical to use to recover your SP. As you've already found out, it's difficult to keep your SP full relying on your natural regen with Power Maximize.

It's not that you don't want regen, it's that when you're heavily using skills and stuff, natural regen is pretty useless.

I would recommend that for any player looking to make a Mastersmith -> Mechanic, you consider obtaining:
Rideword Hat [1]
Earth Deleter Card (armor)
Nidhorgger's Manteau [1] (or however that is spelled)

These are not practical items for a newer player to own, but reality is, they're how you regen SP at high levels without warping yourself from the inn (which you can also do, but this is not really practical in places like Juperos where you cannot memo anywhere close to the map) or having a scholar slave you (which is just an obnoxious thing to try to set up in the best of circumstances).

Just as an example, at high levels, you'll have like 20k+ HP and 1k+ SP. You do not want to wait for this to regenerate.
