You can use caffeinate to prevent your Mac from automatically sleeping while its display is off:
- Open Terminal.
- Enter the following:
caffeinate - When you have finished vending, press control-C in Terminal to terminate caffeinate.
Be aware that caffeinate may not prevent your network connections from being interrupted if you do one of the following:
- Choose Sleep from the Apple menu.
- Press and hold the power key for approximately 0.5 seconds.
- Close your Mac's lid.

Hello Axylus
I need your help. I followed all your steps to install RO on Wineskin. However, when I open it to patch the renewal version the application crashes. It shows this window.
And it gives me this log.

Try manually updating the client using my differential update.

Thank you! It worked. Do you have any advise for the screen set up? Also, it has 3 play buttons "play" "re-play" and "play classic" for the renewal would it be play or re-play?

Yay!

See my private message.

Press Play to open the Renewal client; the Replay button is only used to play gameplay recordings.

Are you certain that the updater installed all of the available updates? This error occurs when you attempt to use an outdated version of the client.
Please do the following:
- Reapply my differential update.
- Open the Renewal client.
- Observe whether the updater spends at least 30 seconds downloading and installing new updates. If it doesn't, then something is probably blocking your computer from connecting to the update server via FTP.

Hello Axylus,
I have followed your new guide (with Wine) and it worked for me just fine, thank you ! But I would like to ask what is the reason the game client ping is so much worse than on windows machine ? Sometimes it takes up to few seconds for character to start moving.
My current internet connection, according to speedtest.net, is: ping 34 ms, download 19 Mb/s, upload 1.5 Mb/s.

Is there anyway we can run pingzapper via wine staging please? Any other ping improvement app that mac can use is much appreciated. Thanks.

I've neither experienced nor heard of this problem before.
What kind of network connection (wired or wireless) is each computer using? If the Mac is using a wireless network connection, then ensure that the connection is stable by entering the following in Terminal and then monitoring the output:
ping -i 0.5 <Address of router>
For example:
ping -i 0.5 192.168.0.1
Hi, thanks for the guide!

The Pingzapper client isn't compatible with Wine. I'm currently investigating whether it's possible to replicate its core functionality using OpenSSH and PF. I'll update this post with my findings at some point within the next few days.

Yes. Are you using CrossOver or Wine?

nothing, i just got this macbook and its my first time using mac, so i dont know what those do.
i did look at your wine tutorial, and it seems i have to at least install them to play. i didnt check crossover though.
this macbook is for work, so i dont wanna install anything regarding games if possible.
if its possible to play directly from an external drive and just open a file when playing, i would like to know how.
if not then i'll just play on my windows pc. thanks for the help.

CrossOver is a version of Wine that is more user-friendly and has a higher compatibility with many applications; however, unlike Wine, it's not free.
To install the Ragnarök Online client onto an external volume:
Tip: Use Launchpad to quickly open an application such as Terminal.
- Open Terminal.
- Enter the following:
nano -Sw ~/.bashrc - Type the following:
export WINEPREFIX=' - In Finder, press shift-command-C.
- Select the volume on which you wish to install the client, and then press option-command-C to copy its path to the clipboard.
- In Terminal, press command-V to paste.
- Type the following:
/Wine'
The contents of the file should now resemble the following:
export WINEPREFIX='/Volumes/My Passport/Wine'Spoiler - Press control-X, Y, and then return. (Do not press control-Y.)
- Enter the following:
source ~/.bashrc && mkdir -v "${WINEPREFIX}" - Install the client.
- In Finder, select the volume on which you installed the client in the left pane.
- Navigate to Wine/drive_c/Client installation folder.
- Open the file Ragnarok.exe.
- In Finder, press shift-command-A to open the system applications folder.
- Select the application Wine Staging, and then press command-C to copy it to the clipboard.
- Select the volume on which you installed the client in the left pane.
- Press shift-command-N to create a new folder, name it Applications, and then open it.
- Press option-command-V to move the contents of the clipboard into the current folder.

thanks for these. btw, at first when locating the path on where to install my client, do i need wine already installed??Spoiler
and then when installing the client from your tutorial where do i start?? on the usage or installing xquartz, wine staging and so on??
also, when moving wine onto an external drive, does it just copy-paste it and the app is still on my macbook after??
its morning here so im gonna have to do all these after work and see how it goes. thanks again.

No. If it was necessary to install Wine first, then I would have indicated that in the instructions. Where is the trust?
and then when installing the client from your tutorial where do i start?? on the usage or installing xquartz, wine staging and so on??
Start from step 1 of Installation. The installation script (wine-application-installer.sh) will automatically use the path that you write to the (hidden) file ~/.bashrc.
also, when moving wine onto an external drive, does it just copy-paste it and the app is still on my macbook after??
If you move (not copy) Wine onto an external volume, then it should function exactly as it would if it was located on your Mac's system volume ("Macintosh HD"), except that it won't be visible in Launchpad or Spotlight. Most macOS applications are self-contained packages that can be manipulated in the same manner as normal files.

Hello! Would anyone know the best version of Wineskin to use to play ragnarok on Mac OS El Capitan?
I'd really love to play but can't seem to make it run on my mac with both Wineskin and Crossover.
Can anyone please help me? Many thanks!
Have you tried using Wine? I've found that it's far more reliable than Wineskin.
