What are you using for this stuff? Autodesk Maya?

model was done using free program called Wings 3D - http://www.wings3d.com/
model cleanup and baking textures in XSI (now called Softimage after Autodesk bought them)
UV unwrapping in very cheap program called - Headus UV layout - http://www.uvlayout.com/
finishing textures etc would be done with Photoshop (Adobe)

which tools you use pretty much doesn't matter as you can use really simple and free apps or top most expensive ones and get same results
expensive or let's call them "pro" apps have some unique features but in 99,999999999% cases you won't need them unless you work on some hollywood blockbuster movie effects
if you are wandering what app to choose - pick one that you can afford, also pick one that you can easy find tutorials or that is used by your friends so you can get some help from them
today with some 3rd party tools or some plugins you can exchange data inbetween most of programs so it became totaly irrevelant which one you picked
most studios set software requirements only because they already have software and buying new "unique" programs is not very "economical"

hahaha swat gear wouldn't be my first idea for rose but thats quality work for sure.

wings 3d huh? why not just softimage? never used either much. (more ofa max man) XD

its all in personal preference but the workflow/tools can make a dif. *shrugs* not saying your point isnt valid though.
and i'll def have to tinker with that cute uvlayout app lol ...need to find my old plugins and mess with rose alil this seems awesome.
