It's region locked. And if you try to run pirated games on it. You may own a brand new paper weight.

As for the 3DS, I've hard that people have been having trouble getting the 3D effect working so I definitely won't be getting it. Plus, I already have a DS Lite. Nintendo's turned into the Apple of the gaming world.

I have no problems seeing the 3D effect, it just didn't work the way I thought it would. I suspect this is what people are claiming "not being able to see the 3D effect" means. It works like you have to look straight onto the 3D screen (like 90 degrees if you know what I mean) for the 3D effect to work, not with just any angle.
Either that... or they simply don't see it.

it seems like a huge waste of money, considering nintendo releases a new ds system like every year.

I honestly hope you don't think the 3D effect is the only difference. It's more of a gimmick. It's a entirely new system. Don't think it's just a new version of the DS. This is a new generation. Not just a design change.
The 3D can be turned off. There is a slider that lets you adjust the affect to whatever you want it to be.
Right now the real problem is, it has no games. So there isn't much reason to buy one unless you are some major Nintendo fan.

Aside from that we probably all know how Nintendo is like. It's just like the Wii:
20 million people want the 3DS. 4 million people now got it, and it's probably going to take Nintendo at least half a year before the next shipment arrives in stores.

Sounds like this is Nintendo's very own Playstation 3.Right now the real problem is, it has no games. So there isn't much reason to buy one unless you are some major Nintendo fan.
Speaking of the PS3, how big is its game library now?

Google's been lagging for me as of late. Plus, I heard they hide certain results and not show everything that's out there on the Internet so I don't feel it's that reliable in showing everything there is on the Internet.im surprised no one uses google to answer questions.. come on! :/

Actually, I'm quite curious about squeenix's recent port of FF III to the apple OS, and how a jrpg might play on a finger-touch system. I think a port of IV or VI that I can play with updated graphics on my phone would probably preclude me from needing to pick up a 3ds for the forseeable future. Also, too many remakes on the 3ds...the ds had very strong third party support but it seems like a lot of developers aren't ready or are adopting a wait and see approach for Nintendo's latest handheld.I just want to play the maybe being made Final Fantasy 6 remake. I loved all the remade Final Fantasy games on the DS.

They are going to be installing 3D screens in phones soon too. Though I personally don't want to see the death of the handheld.
Oh no! We can't delete our own posts anymore? D: How will I cover up my double posts?

Why does everything have to be 3D
Because they don't know what to do anymore. We have technologies in development that if they'd improve and make practical would change everything we know about gaming. I don't want to stare at the screen anymore. I want to be placed in the world. It's becoming more and more possible. 3D depth technology is one small step towards that. Maybe one day we will see a fusion of the 3DS and the Virtual Boy. As well as a very advanced version of the nia Game Controller, Maybe.. Or the next generation will be the same boring graphical upgrade, with all the features of everyone's favorite handheld... the PSPgo.
