I was just wondering is this game free or not? i read that it is but i just want to make sure before i get all the way done and find out i have to pay.....

Depends on what server you wish to play.
Valkyrie is free, but it is harder than premiums (Valkyrie player here)
But on April 6th (hopefully) all servers will be F2P, so if you wish to the other premiums then all you need is to pay a small fee to enter.

As iiNote said, only Valk is free at the moment, but after April 6th ish all servers will be free with the option to upgrade to a "vip" mode. However, on Ymir, you'll need to be in premium mode to create a new chara and on Valk and Ygg you can create up to 3 for free and have to be in premium to create more. On all servers, you can play all 9 slots for free, you just have restrictions on creating new charas.
