So I've been playing a game I can't discuss. And while I was playing it I was thinking. What if there was a Ragnarok Online themed RTS.

The class system already allows a bunch of different types of units. Gunslingers, Archers, Ninjas, Knights on Pecos are your calvary. I really think if GRAVITY made this I would be super exicted for it. You could even train porings and other monsters to fight for you. You'd have to mine Emperium, Oridecon, Elunium, and some other lower level ores. Each unit could be upgraded to become different classes, just like in the real RO. You could build large kingdoms, that may look like towns in RO depending on what choices you make. Maybe you research industry and become more like Einbroch. Maybe you research Religion and become more like Prontera.

Imagine a giant army of Dancers being able to mesmerize enemy units. While Assasins could maybe go invisble on the minimap for a few seconds and sneak into your town. Archers would do what archers do. A giant mass of Peco riding Knights heading toward your gate, followed by some angry looking Crusaders... 50 Porings beating up your Novices who would be your villagers I guess.

I wish this could become real. I wonder if something like this could be done inside the actual RO. Like, a big large map that players could PvP this way on, and earn prizes and stuff. I guess like a battleground room.

Could replace KvM with it. Would make getting points actually interesting (which KvM is anything but).

I wish GRAVITY would make a game like this and sell it similar to Pogo's Lounge.

Even better if you can use it to earn Kafra Points or bonus RO items. Better than having to deal with PlaySpan's "play these crappy unrelated-to-RO Facebook games for points".

Except.. that would make them no profit at all. Unless you'd have to view ads while playing.

Decent idea, but RTS these days are a dying breed. SC is the only game saving it from grace. I could see the title though, Ragnarok: War of the porings. lol

That's because dumb americans only play FPS games and japanese only play games where they can pretend they're not single.

The reason RTS games are a dying breed is because most of the ones that have been released recently really suck ass.

SC2 has a lot of problems compared to the first one imo.

The problem is, there really aren't any big developers for the genre and most of the games tend to run pretty old engines and have poorly thought-out scenarios and are poorly balanced.
The fault isn't in the genre, but in the production of the games.

Real Time Strategy game.

It's a game where you have to balance resource collection and military production and traditionally win by conquering the entire map.

Its possible. I made a tower defense game based on woe, don't see why I couldn't make an RTS, since my tower defense game already uses an RTS based system.

You can check it out here: http://forums.irowik...ead.php?t=59309

Feel free to comment or leave your ideas about your RTS there, I rarely check here.

I never understood starcraft. I tried playing it several times, I found it boring.
I still play Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance in a lan party almost every week. (SupCom2 sucks, mainly because it was made for consoles too I bet, stick with Forged if you are going to play one)
Now, RTS with ragnarok would be hard to do I would think. Or if it is done, it would be lame. I wouldn't mind a Turn-based though (think Final Fantasy Tactics only with MMO aspects to it, can imagine things like woe being more... Intricate.).

Also, holy hell. AOE online? (I hope it's gonna be like a AOM2...)

Would be interesting to see it though. Main thing hard about it is the sprites and/or artists involved to make it visually appealing. The programming aspect wouldn't be too hard (well not as hard as most would think)
