Nice.I'm very happy right now, not even an hour after posting this, a GM appeared and sent the bots back where they came from ;D
Keep it up!

We're giving the benefit of the doubt to normal looking players that are writing in, but this was not an indiscriminate block.

See this is what we need more of, killing bots in style and doing it with a smile.

The IP block was enacted by our tech guys for IPs that connected to the game by bypassing the patch client (which would be strange because a patch was just put in) or that were using a mod client or third party program to access the servers-IT has confirmed that it would not be possible to connect in this way normally.

I've never bypassed a patch client. I've never used a moded client or third party program to access the servers(besides a proxy RIGHT NOW inorder to post). You guys have made a mistake.

The trouble with IP bans is that others sharing the same IP range or who end up with the same IP at a future date once the one doing illegal activity disconnects and lets it go will get caught in the crossfire. They're not very focused methods of banning for that reason. :\ I wonder what the alternatives could be?

Would it not also be the case that some people first patch up their game and then simply bypass it with a simple ragexe.exe shortcut and adding -1rag1 at the end of the target link? I know a lot of people who only use the patch client when they know there's a patch, then after that they just simply use the above-mentioned ragexe.exe shortcut to bypass the patch and go straight to the client as it is quicker and less of a hassle. I don't think this is anything illegal as the GMs have condoned it in the past. If it is then we'll simply stop using the shortcut. Also, many players have posted threads in the past about bypassing the patch this way when the servers were up but the patch was blocking access to the game, so they bypassed the patch in order to play until the patching errors were fixed.
