Hey all, I just started on the Ygg server and can't find anyone to party with or even talk to.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing but I've been doing pretty well with the quests in that Eden place. Is there a good place to level a merchant at level 23~? What does leveling the pushcart skill do? It has 10 levels but no indication of what it improves.

It makes you move faster with the Cart.

At level 20-ish, I'd go to Poring Forest, or Payon Cave.

Mine wouldn't patch either but when I ran renewal.exe it patched fine.

What does leveling the pushcart skill do? It has 10 levels but no indication of what it improves.

Movement speed with cart = 50% of base movement + 5%*Pushcart level.

It's one of the skills you pretty much need to max on a merchant to be effective. That and IWL are IMO the most important merchant skills to have maxed before you change to second job.

You could try joining one of the guilds on Yggdrasil to hook up with other players:

At your level you could try Ant Hell (from Morroc exit south then go left, an NPC will take you to the west map, go up a bit and enter a portal (surrounded by pointed teeth shaped things).

Payon Cave Level 1 is also good as suggested above.

Culverts could also be good due to the quanitity. In Prontera enter the building top left of the map and behind the counter ask to help clear Culverts. They'll warp you outside the entrance with a few supplies. Level 1 is kind of sparse but deeper levels have a TON of monsters.

I give up on the cave place, kept getting swarmed and dying, not to mention just normal fighting in there is eating up my novice potions.

Well the other 2 maps I suggested has monsters that "Assist" so may get mobby too. If its too tough you could try the following maps which have less aggressive monsters:

Depending on which server you're on you can get good zeny for selling to other players the Bear Footskins you'll get on the first map too. On Ymir they go for 5,000 zeny each, I made 1,500,000 today dropping 300 in someones Buy Store. But on Valkyrie (and maybe soon Ygg) due to the bots it seems its 600~1,000.

I'll check out the culvert place next, though I don't know if I'm going to stay much longer. There's this horrible lag and I have to click 5 times just to get my character to go somewhere, it's very game-breaking for me.

Yeah there was some terrible server-wide lag today. The Gms are aware of some issues but not sure when it'll be resolved:
