You probably have the same chance getting into a raid as a general DPS class.
While there are less tanks, buffers and healers in the game, you only need a couple per raid compared to 10+ DPS classes.
My advice is play what you think you will enjoy. If you're unsure then try out classes til you find one you like.
Join a nice guild that won't mind what class you bring and you can raid with anything.
There's too much greed in this game, but if you look you'll find many people are willing to help.
From the sounds of it, Commander (tanky) and Warlord (party buffer) could be up your street.
