We already practically have this... It's just a little less direct, and you need to start from +7...

Safe upgrades from +7->10, without risk of breaking if it falls below +7. If you are out of zeny to pay for it, there are lucky boxes to fund it.

To be clear, I don't support this idea, and don't like how upgrading is just a cash-shop fest now.

If you don't exit the NPC dialog, you can keep going with HD ores even if it falls below +7.

Wow, I can't imagine that's intended to be like that.

I knew about that, but that's not "without risk of breaking" because you can:
- run out of zeny
- run out of HD
- get DCed by network interruptions/power outages/exploits/etc.

Risk-free would be if they were to flag all +7 or higher items so the NPC gives them special treatment even if they're below +7, but I can't imagine iRO having the capability or motivation to implement that.

Yeah it was pretty short-sighted to increase the upgrade limit snd then not touch anything else regarding upgrading (weapon/gear effects, the point at which stuff breaks, the upgrade rates/curve etc.). My main issue with the whole HD Ore event was that it was trying to fix something that needs to be adjusted in-game with a cash shop item. If they really want to just move the goalposts (like how they moved monsters levels up a notch in Renewal instead of adding new monsters for 3rd class to kill =_=) then they should of tweaked gears + anything else in the game affected by upgrades (monster difficulty?) and made the breakage point further up the scale. But as it stands the goalpost move of +20 limit was pointless.

As it is right now I think most people will just leave there stuff at +4. Its sad but true. I have tried upgrading cheaper stuff and seen a lot of it break. You guys don't even want to know how many Carga's and Infil's I have destroyed trying to get them to +7.

For me personaly, I will hope they do some type of upgrade event in the future. My +4 Glorious Bloody Roar will never see its full potential unless they make the enriched safe to +7 in a event or make some upgrade coupon that give insurance against it breaking.

My idea would be a kafra item. Make it $5 - $10 a coupon. You upgrade to +4 safely. Buy a upgrade coupon. Use the coupon and it will prevent the weapon from breaking on the next attempt. If the attempt fails, the coupon has been used. If the attempt works, the coupon is still used. The coupon will not guarantee the upgrade would be successful but would prevent the item from breaking only. This would make money for Gravity and make ugrading available for expensive items.

They could also implement a restore your weapon one time a month per account if you are VIP. That would promote their VIP product and get a few more people to jump into the VIP status. You make a upgrade attempt. If it breaks and you are VIP, email the GM's and they will restore it one time per month of paid VIP status.

I thought that the GM's wanted people to have higher upgraded weapons. They have it set for items to be upgraded to +20. If they implemented these upgrade coupons, more people would try to reach the higher levels.

I also wanted to say that I personally like how they did the HD ores.

Make it so Enriched Ores work similarly to the HD Ores. Downgrade on failed attempt, but weapon/armor doesn't break in the process. You start from +4 and try to get to +7 for the HD Ores. Rinse and repeat until weapon/armor is +7. Enriched Ores' worth goes up and is bought more = Profit?

I like how they did the HD ores event. It's the enriched ores that are proving to be useless to me lately because stuff keeps breaking. Yes I do want KVM gear to stop breaking >.>

- run out of zeny

- get DCed by network interruptions/power outages/exploits/etc.

But realistically, the only case of risk is if you get DCed while being under +7. Normally people check how many ores do they have left and just go outside of the dialogue to recharge ores or zeny if they are getting dangerously low.

kvm badges should have never been put in lucky boxes and/or the HD ore event a few months ago should have never been put in. but since it was, i dont see a problem with this. everybody who was around for the HD ore event alrdy has +9 or higher kvm weapons anyways. might as well make it so everyone who missed it can get them and compete too. it doesnt necessarily need to be a kafra shop item either, could be a woe reward.
