If you have 50 ores left at +7 (armor), there is a >2.9% chance you will fail on the first try AND not make it back to +7 before running out.But realistically, the only case of risk is if you get DCed while being under +7. Normally people check how many ores do they have left and just go outside of the dialogue to recharge ores or zeny if they are getting dangerously low.
With 100 ores, this becomes 0.17% which, while small, is still non-zero (and significantly higher than card drop rate, by the way).
I don't think many people consider 50 or 100 to be "dangerously low."
Meanwhile, the reasoning behind Gravity's lack of action is clear. People will be forced to buy tons of extra HD they likely won't need just to reduce one avenue of risk (~1850KP to get armor's unrecoverable failure rate down to 0.01%). Then, in all likelihood, they're stuck with all that HD and eventually start thinking, "it would be such a waste if I didn't try to upgrade my other ..." and the cycle continues. This seems to me to be the kind of unethical money-grubbing we shouldn't be defending.
Also, the chance of getting DCed is higher than you might think. While Viri's example is well-known and easy to understand, there are other ways that are completely undetectable by any ordinary means.

kvm badges should have never been put in lucky boxes and/or the HD ore event a few months ago should have never been put in. but since it was, i dont see a problem with this. everybody who was around for the HD ore event alrdy has +9 or higher kvm weapons anyways. might as well make it so everyone who missed it can get them and compete too. it doesnt necessarily need to be a kafra shop item either, could be a woe reward.
You don't need them to compete. Most people are extremely greedy and want events to upgrade and hoard +9 armors to sell later.

I just want to +9 my KVM Katar. I am not very optimistic about getting it to +7. I tried to upgrade some cargas and broke a lot trying to get to +7 and cargas are level 3. Same goes for slotted infil's. I don't mind breaking a 20mil weapon. Just don't want to break a precious KVM weapon. KVM people sell in cart goes for over 1mil each. It takes 2000 KVM for a weapon.

You do not fix things by breaking them more... if every class had useful overpowered gear they benefited from kvm +9, then maybe, but the kvm weapons only benefit two or three classes. Imagine that everybody had +9 kvm gear avaible: ok, now two or three classes are playing in equal field between them. Suras can instafist each other, instead of one sura slowfisting and the other casting instant, for example.
And everybody else? where do the classes who do not benefit from +9 kvm weapons are left in? for them, each person with easy strong gears doesn't mean more balance between each other, but more and more unbalance against us xP.
If you are going to have strong gears, at least have a small chance of failure.

Just your bad luck. +4 to +5 on a level 4 weapon or armor is estimated to be a 90% success rate with E.Ores. And I've +5'ed plenty of things using the E.Ores without breaking, so.......upgrade rates for enriched oridecon from 5-6 is 60 % and from 6-7 its 60% right ?

and i also had a glorious mace that broke going to +5

I have your luck lol. I break carga maces left and right. The success rate on a level 3 carga should be real high. I have one +9 and two are +6. I have had such bad luck to +7 a carga that I usually leave them at +6 out of fear of breakage.
On a side note, you are the man pnoik20. You had the guts to take 2 glorious fists and a glorious mace to the upgrader and try your luck. They all broke. Thats just sad. The purist will say, "oh well, better luck next time." The reality is that a large group of smart players upgraded there kvm to +9 the last time it was safe.
The haters will say that this occurrence is how the game should be. A +9 KVM weapon should be damn near impossible to make. The problem is that +9 KVM is out there now. A lot of it actually.

It always has this insanely long stretch going +4 to +5 and back.
Very annoying. It's like if they took the valkyrie rates and put those on the ymir server, then announced that all servers would get the rates the premium server had.
That being said, I was on +9 three times with 5k kp, and am still trying for the +10. It seems harder now though.

It will be like, the equipment you are trying to upgrade needs to be +6 though to be able to use the +7 refine ticket, so that the last upgrade to +7 wouldn't be risky if you have the refine ticket.

This is what I don't get. You pay money for better upgrade chance with enriched ore. The enriched ore gives you a 60% chance to +6 and +7 your equip. Thats nice odds but still sucks trying to upgrade a KVM weapon(which in most cases is worth over $100 cash if received through lucky boxes). When you get a item to +7 you buy HD ore(a premium ore like enriched) but we all know that your odds are much lower than enriched. Almost every time I get a level 4 weapon to +7 it will downgrade all the way to +3 or +2 during the HD ore process. I have had items go negative(below +0 level). This just seems like a money making system for gravity. If we are paying for a premium ore(HD) at +7 we should at least get the enriched success rate below +7. This is why the HD ore process sucks. Yes, if you throw enough cash at the HD ore process you will eventually get it to +9 or +10 but for a lot of people that play the game without a large cash flow will have a larger shot of downgrading there +7 back to +4 or lower during the process. I personally will not even attempt to upgrade a level 4 weapon to +9 without $20 worth of HD's. I know a lot of people will not even start the process of upgrading above +7 without $50 worth of HD ore. This is the norm. I know people get lucky. I have personally got lucky on a level 3 carga upgrading it from +7 to +9 with two HD's. Never that lucky on a level 4 weapon. All my equips are upgraded. I know what the truth is when it comes to HD ore refine rates.
I also would like a refine to +7 ticket in the lucky boxes. Make it a "A" class item. I don't see how this is going to hurt anything. The game is already set up for people with money to have a advantage over people that play it strait. If you don't believe me than you must not really play the game much. The lucky boxes in the game are cash items. Gravity makes money off of people who in return get better equipment or more exp(x3 battle manual). You pay to be VIP and get perks. Letting a few people +7 a KVM weapon is not going to kill the game. They already did it before and we are still playing lol. Gravity will make more money and in return can do upgrades to the game experience.
