Two-Handed or One-Handed

I was just curious as to which would be better in the leveling and use department: A two-handed spear that I can find easy and cheap (like a crescent scythe or something) or if I should hold out until I can pick up a one-handed spear (which current I'm holding out for a Poll Axe)? I know that the two hander will do more raw damage, but the one handed has decent damage as well, about a 30ATK (tops) difference and offers that use of a shield.
Any input or advice would be great!

- does the higher atk weapon save you hits
- do you have shields to use
- are you use holy cross? (in which case get a hellfire or spectral spear)
- will you be upgrading/overupping it (poll axe is level 3 while the other spears mentioned are level 4, thus each upgrade will further increase the disparity in attack with the lvl 3 weapon)

Right, so I've got a Spear Sader now and I'm liking it a lot, the only problem is that I do not have a decent weapon to use with it right now (Using a store bought 60ATK Pike)

I think you should stick with crescent scythe for the time being. Also try to obtain Gelerdria. Very useful for farming Harpy.
After trans, A lot more one hand spear will be available (also help leveling), etc long horn, battle hook.
