It's not just 3rd job changes that are hard, since renewal, some of the monsters you have to face in quests for 2nd job or for quest skills are way out of your league. For example, for arrow craft(you can do it when you change class but still) you need 41 Tough Stemsomethingsomething, which drops from stem worm, whom now are very very powerful, I couldn't even get them with my 82 Crusader when I wanted to do that quest on my archer.
._.
Another example is say, Assassin quest, when you have to run through a room full of Mummy, I was never much fond of Assassins in the past nor present but I am sure that pre-renewal you didn't die from a single hit from them.

Chasers actually have the longest job change quest out of everyone I've tested on Sakray. ._.a (Actual quest length, not "fake" length like the GX one.)There was this Paladin whom leveled with my stalker to 99/70 at almost the same time, he beat me to it though, went and did his quest, returned litterally in 10min. When it was finally my turn to do the quest, it took me damn near 3 hours.

I can't say chasers are the longest quest as it can be done with other players.. I've done both chaser and WL quest, and I say WL is the hardest job change quest..Chasers actually have the longest job change quest out of everyone I've tested on Sakray. ._.a (Actual quest length, not "fake" length like the GX one.)
For the first part, I've asked a priest to accompany me. Took me about 30min-1hour hunting both items. For the second part, it made me buy big bun box of 100pcs and a box of tokens. You're lucky if you managed to survived 2 waves with just white potions. Also, it's impossible to finish the quest w/o phen card as the monsters are sure hit.

Without following any guides (there weren't any back then), solving the puzzles myself and generally not having the correct weapon while soloing through it, it took about 5 hours to do the Chaser quest. :xI can't say chasers are the longest quest as it can be done with other players.. I've done both chaser and WL quest, and I say WL is the hardest job change quest..

the items are a really low drop and you have to get them from mobs with very high hp compared to yours, even if you have a decent vit. the mobs that you must kill are in an aggro map where there are fast monsters and again, the drop rate is really low for the items. then you have to fight 2 waves of monsters, and you have a time limit. it's pretty damn hard, but for the phen and the slim pots you will need, you prolly can get the zeny. i wouldn't expect less from a 99/70 hwiz, as in you should be able to afford 5-6m.

i have to use ale for large mobs since using white pot will get under-healed.
do you think that wizard class seems to be the hardest one out of the job change?
the first part of the last test has a marine sphere which self-destruct if you don't kill it fast enough
@ Kimouchiro:
Shining is the one thats harder to get, i been through it.

There is a disparity in the difficulty of the different 3rd class job changes. The ranger one is the hardest i find. The warlock one takes some skill that you should have acquired but gear and pots can get you through it.
There is a major problem with the statement you made imho.
The problem is that it is not really likely for ANY person to reasonably get a certain card via lvling. I spent tons of time on my Sader and Paladin leveling on almost nothing but Kobolds from level 92-99 and did NOT get a single Kobold Card.
There are 3 ways really that a HWiz (only 2 for Wiz) to get uninteruptible casting. Phen Card, Bloody Butterfly Card and Orleans Gown. The problem is that none of these are "seriously" obtainable as monster drops by Wiz classes BEFORE WLock.
Phen's are in an area with 2 other highly aggro monsters thus severely limiting your ability to effectively hunt them. The only exception to this now is the VIP Water Dungeon quest which can GUARANTEE you a Phen Card by completing the 5 quests.
Bloody Butterfly - Kunlun Dungeon 1 is the place to hunt them but lets face facts. Mage Classes hunting anywhere Ranged attackers are is pretty damn difficult if you don't ALREADY have uninterrupted casting.
Orleans Gown's - Dropped by level 130 & 118 Shadow 2 guys. Enough said.
This added to the fact that they disable Ice Wall in the WLock test make it Super hard todo with nothing but normal pots considering HWiz Weight Limit.
Even with Phen Card I had to use about 20 Green ales to pass this test.

There is also the morpheus set but that is more expensive than a bloody butterfly but cheaper than phen. However, that means you lose garment reduction.

A phen card is basic gear for mage classes; it's the first piece of gear that you need to buy once you have a few million. That you're trying to do the warlock quest without it begs the question of how the hell you managed to get 99/70 hwiz without one...

Oh, and you can get a phen card by completing the Overlook dungeon...

I did my test w/o phen lol (actually I gave it away before pre-renewal)... I'm not sure if is harder than when renewal came live (I do believe, there were just 1 or 2 warlocks who made it before me), the most difficult part for me was the hunting part mainly because I'm way too lazy to hunt down stuff...
For the practical test, IW, SW and SG/JT were quite useful... SG 1, SG 10, JT and SW to protect your cast, and using those books they give you to help you out... then firebolt that stone at the end...
Perhaps things really did change now...

Actually getting to 99 as a HWiz is pretty easy without a Phen card, or like effect. In fact I do not believe I used my Phen card during leveling at all to reach 99/70.
The only time I know I used it for sure was during the original Wizard test a LONG time ago. After that until the Overlook Water dungeon came out I didn't even have one as I had sold mine off. Even when I had it it sat in Kafra Storage 99% of the time I even used my Wiz/HWiz.
The main reason for this was because 99% of the time I leveled solo and did not let monsters close enough to hit me. I never even really used Wiz/HWiz skills other than, HDrive, MAmp, JT and occasionally SG to level at all. My main Leveling skills all through the game were FBolt and CBolt with 2 Imp/Siroma Cards.
Lets face facts, Wizzies have CRAPPY HP pools so cannot take many hits. Wiz AOE attacks have HUGE Cast times. These are 2 reasons Mob leveling is pointless todo Solo. If you have a Priest that Can Heal you while your taking hits and casting then yes it's a great gear to have. Otherwise you die way to much or spend a lot of time and zenny heading back to town/storage for pots.
Edit: Yeah I knew about the Phen card reward from Overlook as I added like 80% of the info on that quest in irowiki. Also of my Characters listed below only my current Warlock, RG and SinX did NOT do the quest as they were already rebirthed and to high lvl to do it. All 5 other characters have done it though. Even my Scholar did it back when he was a High Mage into Scholar (which is why my Scholar is currently stuck with stupid LB and LS at lvl 10).
