Hi guys! I was wandering through some maps today and there are some areas that just have this RPG feel to them. We never really explore, spoiled with fwings, easy means of getting zeny for kafra warping, and various other elements that since the creation of the game have actually removed the RPG element. I was thinking, what if fly wings and teleport were disabled on world maps - not dungeon maps, just some of the world maps in between cities. It would make force you to travel through the areas if you need to get somewhere. Just an idea, a very basic one, and open to feedback!

Interesting idea, but forcing a style of play ultimately doesn't work out very well. Best way to have that RP feel is to steel yourself and just not use them.

In the earlier days of RO, walking places was a much more common occurence.

I agree, I think it brings a lot to the game. to insta teleport everywhere takes a lot away.

Problem is, with so many places to go/things to do now, force explore would be more aggravating than anything.

Maybe make a one time exception? Can't wing on a map till a character touches all portals?

If ppl want to explore they will. No need to force them.

Might be good if it could be a trigger that was enabled during a quest. Or maybe added to one of the existing lore related quests. Old players have already explored all the maps since the game is 8 or 9 years old now.

I think that putting more quests into the world and balancing the monsters would get people exploring.

No thanks... Those of us that want to appreciate the world already do, I think.

Plus Hide & Seek kind of does that too, doesn't it? Forces people to explore. ;o

There's just all this stuff you never see. I was on a map today and there's giant tornado graphics and sprites in the bottom left corner. Absolutely no reason to go find them. On the same map, a big mountain that if you are forced to climb to the top of, is quite awesome. Or you can giant fwing to the portals and miss these features :waddle: There are lots of areas old players haven't seen!

Back before renewal one reason I didn't like exploring was because on 9/10 maps there will be this one ***hole enemy that will be five hundred times stronger than every other enemy on the map.

Spending half an hour walking from one town to another or to the depths of a dungeon while being forced into a game of russian roulette, being sent all the way back to the previous town if I die, is not my idea of a good time.

That's not so much of an issue now though.

And what if this was forced on us?

We see these places once and might think "Oh cool, this does look sort of neat!" but the next 50 times we're forced to drag ourselves through it all we'd likely be thinking would be "FFFFFFF!!!".

I'm all for quests that get people out into the fields of Rune Midgard, but it shouldn't be forced. If the quests actually have worthwhile rewards, people will go.

Or just putting quests in that are worth doing... aka don't give 100k exp for an hour of running around...

quests all over the world map would be awesome. and dont make them memoable. if the quest is not worth it people wouldnt be doing it. id rather just afk and do something else irl. its like half of the players are afk in ymir. damn. and those that reach 150 said its a curse to reach 150 coz u dont have anything else to do. they dont wanna make a new char coz of how hard reaching a decent level.
