Problem is RO and other MMO games need trial/free accounts to get new players interested and micro transactions done. So they can't make everything pay to play which would stop bot spams.

If you blocked the chat they'd just sit 100s of bots in town with their website name. If you blocked that they'd do chats etc etc. They'd find a way round it.

As for the farming bots. I see them as the lesser of two evils. When wow started cleaning house of low lvl bots and programs the botting websites needed a new source of gold since lets face it the morons who buy zeny/gold aint gonna stop buying cos they are STUPID. That source was to hax and steal player accounts and strip them out of valuable goods. Imo thats a far worse and more annoying threat than some lvl 10 novices killing ant eggs.

Right click on them and select 'reject Whispering'

1) Ok, this is mad if that's the only option...specially if this is the only option given by the "managing team".

2) Even when we 'reject Whisp' after the restart we need to do it again...wth is the black list cleaning after relog?

3) It should be you, the MT(managenent team) who should FIGHT with the bots and specially the GOLD/ZENY SELLERS. Isn't it worse for you if ppl are(maybe) buying zenys from some 3rd hand while thay could help the server by buying i.e. VIP acc's?

P.S.
I hope that the MT is going to come with some sense to this problem, which is NOT good for them.

Furthermore, the block list can block only 9-10 characters (I can't remember the exact amount). After block list is full, you can not use right click to reject whispering anymore.

Oh they care. They just simply gave up on the spam bots. If you actually thought about it, zeny spammer bots are quite easy to reproduce in many numbers simultaneously. Much faster than the GM's can deal with them. Actually, asking the GM team to specifically watch several towns and banning them every minute that they show up is out of the question. As long as they make some kind of profit, they will keep on spamming away. This is the reason why Ymir isn't infested with these. With every bot banned, they would have to pay for more. This would cut into their profiting. It's free for them to make as many accounts they want for Valk/Ygg.

You can still block characters even if your ignore list is full. Just keep Ignore Whispering them.

Plus, you see all you have blocked whenever you change maps... It's just as bad as the spam.

Yeah that's also bad...

If they(GMs/CMs) want us to shut up, they should made a perma block/black list to which you can add/remove chars by yourself.

And the second option if a char is ignored/rejected or so by an amount of ppl(like 10-20) the char is reported or muted for a week.

And once more thing don't GMs think that the LAG SPIKES can be made by those freakin' gold spammers?

Well... I assume that the need of buying Zeny must be really high, cause otherwise those spammers would be there, right?
So why isnt Gravity making its own *Secret* GoldZenny Site and sell Zeny for like 50% of the price the spammers demand?

ZenySpammer will go away cause its not worth the afford anymore if they dont make enough win and gravity gets some secret bonus as well xD?

Dont take me to serious on this, it was just an dream ^^

That can be abused by other players.

So to precise, the person will be muted only on global channel, it's still will be able to whisp or guild/party chat.

That's just equally retarded. You do realize there's a point where a certain company of spam bots decided to start experimenting with PMing people, right? If you went with that method of muting people, it would only force the spam bots to start going by this method of PMing people as people pass by them.

I don't know whether PMing would be efficient enough to be worth any kind of effort (unless they could get a bot to do it o.o ) as that would reduce visibility to a single person versus a whole screen... but if muting a player is the red silence icon status, doesn't that also seal skills? (I.E. Potential for huge abuse, say during WoE...)

while you are muted you can not whisper other people nor use any skills and items.

And by the way, what ever gms will bring in will be abused by some lifeless random people anyways. so....

You have no idea. Those spam bots basically registered a list of people that came within their range and started PMing them periodically. Meaning everyone that came within range. It's just as efficient if not even more annoying than the regular All Chat spam, considering that they still PM'ed you even if you were out on some map in ID3 or Rachel where there were no spam bots.

I dunno if spamming a player who didn't consider buying zeny the first few times would do anything to convince him/her xD but that's... a little disturbing that 1) it's apparently been done before and 2) someone thought spamming private messages at other players was a good idea...

They will always find some way to advertise, limiting the trial system is one often used way. Us being a free download and registration certainly makes containment more difficult, and having limited person resources to go around in shutting them up every 10 minutes also helps them.

The means we have limited them in the past is doing things like killing all their zeny (or as much as we could find) but that takes days of doing nothing but that, and then the tickets and other games start to have issues due to the lack of attention on them.

We are working on a long term plan for making it easier to report, and to have more eyes sweeping up the wayward novices, but first step is to get the volunteer mods inplace here on the forums, then we will stare into the void that is the shout bots in-game.

I think one of the things people need to realize is simply what Heim has just reminded us. They have other games and not just RO to manage over. This alone somewhat thins out their management staff on what can be done on a schedule.

Yeah and IF they'd start doing this GMs will MUST take actions!!!

There is always a purpose in different actions. ^^ "Evil" actions but with higher purpose :o and for good of RO community!

OK, but it's not only on RO, the problem with bot/spammers.

This problem is on all(?) games that WP lead. For sure this problem hits Ragnarok Online and Rose Online.

RO, Rose, Requiem, Dragon Saga, Crime Craft, Free Style, Eternal Destiny, etc. You have to keep in mind that bug reports and account-related problems highlighted by many of the tickets takes priority first over all bot reports. Some people need to realize that since it's iRO, they'll constantly have to deal with language barriers as well as investigations into the matters. Bot problems take longer for me to get a reply to, but I've yet to get a support ticket where it's account/bug related where it's taken more than 24-48 hours to resolve. At most it'd take about a week. And that's when they're backed up on tickets.
It's common sense to see that not all tickets are gonna be legit things either. Stuff like "How do I patch RO, because I'm getting a patch error?" Yes, people send in tickets asking about that as well. >.> Some of the most common/redundant/pointless things are sent through the ticket system. Did you know that a lot of people send in multiple tickets asking the same exact thing just because they're not getting a reply in a few hours? This alone makes up for slowing down the ticket system by a good part. It's a common misconception to think that all tickets aren't looked through. Though...I wouldn't doubt that many of the CS team merely browses through the tickets and sends some automated response and then sets it aside.

They do take action when they get around to it. They simply put the reports that deal with account/bug related problems firsthand.
