Drew this on paper first then took a picture and made this of it with Sai:
And then, to practice, I tried to copy this:
And I did this:
Am I doing anything wrong?
Do you have any advice for a noob such as me?
Please accept my as your disciple! orz

It seems like you kinda know how to deal with shading since your light source is somewhat consistent! I think, though, you shouldn't trace anime pictures if you want to improve. Work on the fundamentals/basics! There's a lot of generic artist advice out there and there isn't really anything new I can say, hahaha; all that generic advice is true: draw everyday, challenge yourself, study realism (by looking at something that interests you and taking note of it), bring a sketchbook around, don't limit yourself, everyone goes through crap drawings before they start drawing well, take drawing classes, etc. I don't follow some of the advice myself, but I try to (heck, some of my drawings are still crap at this age).

Uhh, not sure what the other one is, but I mean by putting the original under and tracing over it on a different paper/layer. You can trace realistic stuff, but anime stuff won't let your art improve~~Thanks~ +1

Calque tracing is doing what you described except you do it with transparent paper. So basically I'll keep drawing anime for now, since there's nothing real I can draw around (especially since I don't go outside much).
Thanks for everything!

I'm real. And I'm in your house too. I'm underneath your bed sheets, I'm inside every crack of wood that's on the floor.
