Ok since I'm still waiting for my CC verification accepted for the VIP package (so I can create my char on Ymir), I'd just like to ask if the old-school (the patch before the trans job came) playing is still effective here, like leveling in a spot till a certain level, elemental weapons are still effective here etc. cause I heard there are quests now in RO. Any advice to give me a head start? Anything new here that's significant to playing the game?

Any reply is very much appreciated. Thanks.

- Look out for eden groups, they give good starter equipment. They also offer repeatable quests
- http://irowiki.org/wiki/Stats - read up while waiting for CC verification

I think that's enough for now. Anything else feel free to ask.

The game now gives bonus xp for fighting over your level, and reduced xp for fighting under, so staying in one place forever is not a good idea. There is a world map now, and you can use it to see the most common monster on each map and its level though, so it's not hard to figure out where to go. The irowiki DB has full monster stats to help you pick stuff ideal to your class and build.

The game has slowly become more quest-oriented. Eden group has a full set of quests to help out, especially at low level, and in particular, includes a line that will give you some pretty nice starter gear - nice enough to trans with actually. Also of note, Overlook Water Dungeon (essentially Elite Bylan) has a long set of a kill count quests that finish with the ability to choose any card that can drop there as a final reward. This is a great way to enter the market (or get a phen on a caster), and is a great place to level in general.

As for other quests, the Wiki lists them all, including some fun story-oriented ones. There is nowhere near enough quest content in the game to use that as a primary leveling method, but there's some nice ones with good rewards, and now that the iRO staff is taking a more direct role in modifying iRO, I expect to see more quest stuff coming in the future.

In general, you're going to find exp goes much, MUCH faster than you remember, although the game goes to 150 now, so it of course slows down later.

As for a few other tips:
1. Stat tiers are gone, and with them the idea of cranking things straight to 99. Renewal favors a more spread out stat distribution, although most classes still favor what you expect them to.
2. JXP requirements don't curve like they used to. Don't worry about the whole "should I go 50?" thing. You should have no trouble getting there, even on a merchant.
3. Damage is divided into status attack and weapon attack, and most cards affect only the weapon attack portion. This makes the game far less card-dependent than it used to be, although it of course also means less gear options. In pretty much all cases, high level weapons are the way to go, not 4s carded L1s.
4. To make town hopping a bit faster, Gravity tossed 2 NPC acos, one in Pron, one in Juno, that warp to each other, and between them, to most other towns.
5. 1st job change quests are gone, so don't bother preparing for them. You just hit novice JL 10, talk to the NPC, and bam, done.
6. Class balance is currently pretty terrible, but the next major update to the game does a LOT of things to correct this.
7. The game has a LOT of stuff you'd expect in a modern MMO now - battlegrounds, instances, etc. Definitely read through irowiki, you're going to find there's quite a bit of stuff that wasn't there when you last played.
8. Take a minute to customize your chat logs (you can do that now). In particular, you're going to want to turn off the damage spam.
9. A lot of other little things have been added to modernize RO. Buffs have icons and timer bars, and tell you what they do and the exact remaining time if you mouse over them. We have a mail system, and you can even message someone straight from the party window or your friends list, without even going to a mailbox. You can target party members via the party window. There's a fully functional world map and quest log. Hotkeys are fully customizable, and there's 4 rows for them now. The game asks you to confirm skill assignments so you can't screw them up, and gives you a handy tree view to quickly check prereqs and such. You get a 600 slot storage, and it has a search engine so you can find stuff you've buried in there easily. Etc.
10. A lot of basic formulas have changed, including core stuff like how defense and MATK work. I definitely recommend reading over a list of Renewal changes, such as the one on ro.doddlercon.com (Future Wiki).

Welcome back. :o

Wow, that's a lot of new stuff O_o well anyway,

for numbers:

3, Are you saying that 4s carded level 1 weapons are now not that useful unlike before? And on the latter part, 4s L1's are not recommended? I was too used to that Quad, Double Double, Triple etc cards.

1, what dyou mean by stat tiers are gone? You mean there's no more "closing" of stats? Like before, AFAIK, for every 10 STR stats, there's +20 attack power, something like that?

7, WOW there are instances now? So parties are useful now for PvM?

Ok it seems it's a whole new different game now lol. We'll see where this goes. Thanks for the rep
