Hello, I just have a quick question. I'm new to iRO, just starting again recently and decided to play a gunslinger as an alt.

Basically, I've been encountering some really bad lag in the game. It only happens at certain times in certain places but it's pretty bad when it does happen. It's making soloing as a long ranged damage class very problematic.

Monsters tend to rubber band or warp forward to me when kiting them. This also happens sometimes when other players use skills on my screen.

I'm just wondering if others have encountered similar problems or know what's causing all this lag or if there's any solution for this?

I have a good internet connection/computer, I know there's nothing wrong on my end.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Well, there are a few things you can do.

1. Buy over iRO and plug your internet cable directly into the server
2. Apply to be a GM
3. When 1 and 2 fails, then you will have to resign to fate and:

level yourself at maps that are inhabitted by non-aggro, non assist or non movable monsters. A few good areas:

lvl ~50-70 cmd_fild03: Alligators and Floras, watch out for mutant dragon though (rare spawn)
lvl ~70-90 ein_fild07 or 09: Porcellio and Metaling.
lvl ~90-100 ve_fild07: Stapo, Drosera, Muscipular.
lvl ~110-130 ve_fild03: Drosera, Muscipular, Magmaring.

Sadly there isnt a map that has only non aggro, assist or immovable monsters past Magmarings. So beyond lvl 130 is going to be a problem, and you may have to resort back to buying over iRO or being a GM. If you do become a GM, be kind and give me a Brisingamen? :X

Thanks for the reply and the suggestions, I'll try some of those maps. I've played ranged classes in other MMO's before and never experienced this kind of problem, just not used to lag having this much of an effect on gameplay.

If you havn't already, try using LowerPing or wtfast. Both of those offer gaming proxy services which can greatly enhance performance if you're getting a laggy connection to RO. Those two services have been officially approved by the iRO GM team, as they do not hide your IP address from Gravity. Do not use unapproved gaming proxy services.

Yes, though they both offer free trials, wherein the only limit is being periodically disconnected (every 30 min for LP, every 20 min for WTFast).

What they're doing is not cheap to do, and involves maintaining a number of servers in different locations, with multiple ISPs supplying _good_ internet connections.
