The Korean site of RO2 has been revamped to accommodate information about yet another remake of the long-awaited (and forgotten) sequel to Ragnarök Online. Renamed "Legend of the Second" (previously the subtitle was "Gate of the World"), the new RO2 will be more based off the original design and story of Ragnarök with the game taking place after the storyline of RO.

Players will be introduced to 3D renditions of familiar monsters such as Porings, Lunatics, and Roda Frogs. Starting classes will also mimic that of RO with confirmed starters being Swordsman, Acolyte, Mage, Thief, and Archer (according to the Korean site). RO's Merchant has been adapted into a life profession instead, known simply as Blacksmith. (Thanks to ikeren for the link.)

I hear that they won't be implementing RO's branching job classes in favor of a more linear class change. This I'm not too happy about because the diversity of RO's job classes was what drew me to the game. But it's too early to judge at this point since the Korean beta hasn't even started yet so we can't know for sure what the final product will be. Maybe they'll reconsider or maybe they'll come up with something better. Who knows. Branching classes are confirmed!

Thoughts? Comments? Questions?

ro is allready in 3d. all ro2 maps should be the duplakit of ro maps with add on that would win. but last i plaid ro2 i did n ot like the maps way to big tkes to long to travle. prontear fild map took as much time to cross as walking from pront to griffen.

One thing I am wondering about is the visuals in the game. 3D models tend not to look like the 2D concepts. Its nice that the concepts are more adult now. Also I really want the BGMs. So many Yokko Kanno pieces in 1 title.

i wasn't too fired up about it the first time it popped up.

i guess with the re-vamps though it shouldn't be too bad. but in all honesty, it was the 2D-ness of RO that drew me to it, because 3D mmos tend to make me sick. except Aion, that shiz was the bomb.

I'm on the fence but the anticipation is starting to get to me.

I don't find the idea of linear growth exciting, and I've never been much for 3D MMOs since they generally lack substance and make up for it with their "OMG look, we're in 3D!" visuals.

The concept art and early previews look great but I'll need to wait and see how it all plays out.

Agreed.

It's a nice looking dramatization but that's about it...

Also... Those chubby little faces on the otherwise mature looking bodies sort of bothers me.

I loved the original Ragnarok Online 2, and am very excited for the new version of it. I hope it retains it's cuteness factor though. We've yet to see any player models, I'm very very excited to see what those look like.

I hope they'll use the same payment model as RO: free-to-play server and pay-to-play server. I do NOT want to mingle amongst zeny spammers at ALL.

I'm rather looking forward to it. However the new concept art makes me kinda wish that they go for the cell-shaded look instead of the straight render. I think it would add a fun feel to it. It would help give the feel of a throwback to the original. Then again, JSRF is still in my top 3 games

But seriously, would anyone have a major objection to a cell-shaded render?

So if Gravity Corp from South Korea is designing this, does that mean US Gravity will use it as one of their game titles too? Or is Gravity Corp going to do something like NCSoft did with NCSoft West and NCsoft Korea?

I don't see why not. Makes sense for a branch company that's hosting the first game to host the sequel as well. I'd be really upset of Gravity Interactive doesn't publish RO2 here.

I was checking for the thread concerning this earlier but it would seem either iRO wiki crashed (again) or perhaps my computer is just being wonky?

Regardless there have been a few translated interviews which confirmed the return of the branching job-system, however the jobs are said to be reworked in a way that doesn't make the 2-1 set as linear or the 2-2 set as all over the place. So instead of Knight, Ranger, Wizard, Thief and Priest comprising of a set, and Fighter, Hunter, Elementalist, Assassin and Monk consisting another. The game will push for each job to treated as a standalone force with emphasis on the class (Swordie, Rogue, Mage, Archer, Acolyte) , not the job. Does it really make a difference? Probably not.

Also, 3rd jobs were announced to be available during the full opening of the game. I'm hoping that 3rd jobs in RO2 will have another branching form based on the Trans-job from RO1. So, for example an Assassin would become an Assassin Cross or a Guillotine Cross, one specializing in using specific weapons, the other in debilitating opposition. So with 8 professions and 10 3rd jobs we will end up with 80 combinations or with 20 3rd jobs we'll see 160 combinations. On that note, with branching 3rd jobs would it not be neat to see Monk either become a Star Gladiator or Sura? (with less emphasis on map based play for the former)

I don't mind different versions being involved as like a Lee Myung-Jin has the creative reigns and GungHo's influence is minimal

I also hope it's a P2P game based on subscriptions in lieu of a cash-shop (hence the anti-GungHo-ism)

More than anything else...the fact that they scrapped gunners in favor of archers is why I will try the RO2 beta when it comes out.
