Currently, there are a couple of thing's that don't seem to have limits on them that allow users to abuse the negative votes. Unlimited forum accounts and there is a way to spam someone with more than one neg a day from one account. Combine those two and the trollboy's on iro Forums go on a rampage.

Btw if you notice someone neg spamming and blatantly abusing the forums voting system with alt's and more than 1 neg spam in like 30min time span, how would you go about reporting this person to the CM/moderators? Is this kind of forum abuse even something the CM's will do something about?

I talked with Calanor about this. Apparently, it is possible to have a max number of negative and positive votes per day per IP even with logging out and logging in (10 positive and 5 negative). We can see posters IPs, if they are abusing the system, a CM can reset the poster's rep to 0 or 100 and lock the abuser from being able to post for a set amount of time. For RO, I would ask that you report it to whichever Gravity mod is online or to a community mod to report up to me.

What about adjusting the system so that negative voters are forced to add a reply post to their vote.
This type of system is used on one of the networking sites I help to supervise.

+1 -> can be given without comment (reply optional)
-1 -> can not be given without a comment (reply is a must if you want to give negative rep)

I'm pretty confident it would reduce the amount of "rep war" going on.

An opinion is always someones personal opinion on something and cannot be wrong because it is how they perceive something. It is a personal view on a matter or idea or beliefs and cannot be judged wrong except by another personal opinion of another. Just because it is my opinion that Jesus is Lord does not mean instantly that I am wrong or right (though I am right in this particular case), the fact remains that that is my opinion, and you can judge it, and try to prove it wrong all you like, but that will not change my opinion or beliefs (and therefore, the opinion).

On that note, Glory and Praise be to God and his son Jesus Christ.

People downvote my posts all the time even when I post factual info, links to stuff, or quote answers to questions, simply because they don't like me. I eyeroll at it and its *somewhat* annoying.

Last night between like 8pm and 10pm marloe's poor rating went up about 30 pts and mine went down about 30 pts. It was awfully suspicious. I sometimes wonder what petty motivations people are exorcising. My high rep on the forum was for constructive posts and helping people. Some petty person who doesn't like being repeatedly proven wrong comes along and abuses some loophole to modify peoples' rep... its just silly.

I see no use of this rep voting, for me if someone wants to like, dislike, agree, disagree etc. they can put it all in their "comments/replies". And I see "some" ppl, abusing this and negates other ppl's rep and "provokes" other ppl to do the same thing or post reply negative things. Can we just remove it? Building REP here in forums isnt helping RENEWAL's IMBA/OP/NERF problems. /swt

Frankly I don't see the point of "reputation" being added up and then displayed below the users avatar.

All there should be is an option to + or - a post after you replied to it.

A post contains what the person wanted to say at the moment they posted, so the system for individual posts seems appropriate.
The user itself however, is constantly changing.
I mean, they could have realised a mistake or only later really understood an issue, but the -1 will remain on their name.
If someone who made a stupid post later really changed to the better, the -1 were certainly not the cause. Actually the only thing these can do is negatively affect the person.

This seems like the most sensible option. =)
