Do I wish the upgrade rates were better? Sure do but I acknowledge that it's a gamble to begin with and play it like I do slots in Vegas.
I'd love to see them implement expensive safe upgrade bradium that doesn't downgrade though. Give me crappier rates for all I care, if my gear doesn't downgrade I'd be buying upgrade attempts daily.

I'm just going to say I agree with Cydra. As much as people hate mighty hammer his existence is actually quite the blessing because without him 90% of us would be using either +0 or safe upgraded gears, 9% one higher than safe and 1% two or more upgrades beyond safe.

I still hate him, someone else would do his job better!

I'm looking at the aspects of it in the long run.
They already set up the events with the HD ore to test it. Now you pay huge amounts of real money to get what you want.
If this "business model" keeps going as we have been seeing it do, with a larger focus on the cash shop, then the game is surely not far from "Pay2Win" and it will become an uninteresting cash-cow.
I haven't said that it will happen, Gravity might realize it and think "Hey, we're starting to kill the game, let's tweak it so it's not entirely p2w and get cool stuff going".
Sadly content takes ages to get, custom content is limited to events ingame, the game world themselves we're not sure if they can change- ie; add custom quests.
There's much to it, but with how things have been going we're actually seeing the start of a model that is just like a pserver "donation system".

As if I'd get mad at a dwarf built like a refrigerator carrying a giant hammer the size of a Buick...
there is only one dwarf who deserves all your hate..

Its like we're now in the special class at school now and have to wear mittens and have padded chairs so we dont hurt anyone.
I want to have my metal chair back so I can smack idiot posters and make them cry.

Blame the GMs and Community Managers. They played too many My Little Pony games and want the forums to be about peace and love and no trace of hate and disagreement.

That should also apply to the +rep system.
