After a lot of complaints, here is where I think people are going wrong:

1) "Sense" Shinobi to make sure you're looking at the one with 8000 HP. The one with 3000 HP does not tame properly. The one with 3000 HP spawns when an 8000 HP one dies. Be careful you're after the right one.
2) Bring him down as close as possible to 1 HP. Anything over 10 HP is generally just going to be a waste unless you're lucky. Over 100 HP - then you're just throwing tames away (unless you're lucky).
3) Make sure your inventory is not full. That would be annoying.
4) In my experience stunning, freezing, status effecting makes absolutely no difference.

I think a lot of people were going after the ones with 3k left over from successful taming.

I managed to tame 5 with the 18 tames i had. Some where sitting around 30-50hp. I did tame one of the originals and manage to tame the 3000hp one right after as well.

Gave 2 away to guildies!

i killed a few at first to see how many hits i would need. I noticed the monster sort of respawns after you kill one version of it. Caught 1 from the 3 tames i had

great info I was not aware of the low Hp requirement of the target monster until this thread.

as far as I'm aware, the HP thing is a myth, that was frst bought up to discourage people from attempting to catch monsters they werent tanking, because others would kill them

I've never noticed a difference personally with the monster HP, but some swear by it. I'll usually give it a whack or two for luck, or else just to make it stay put, but I never really saw a need with the whole beating the monster to within an inch of its life thing... If it feels lucky though, it's not like it could hurt to do it. Well, just make sure you don't accidentally kill it I guess.

Bashing it with bare hands to ensure you dont kill it when trying to get it below 10 hp o_o.

I've had someone say having the wheel tick over for around 10 seconds on the high level aggressive stuff works better... He managed to get 2 green maidens in a row, and 2 deviruchi in 6 tries that way. I tried it, nothing.

I tried using 11 alice's aprons on an alice, no luck. I give three remaining to our resident 'lucky as all hell, why doesn't he play the lottery?!' guild member... first try, got it. This also happened to him with a bahpo jr, and a couple others.

I tamed over 100 monsters and I will personally back up that the lower HP monster taming works efficiently as opposed to unharmed monster.

I caught 2 Eggs from a single Shinobi twice.

Shinobi has rebirth. If it dies or in this case gets tamed, another one pops out with half HP or so.

Regarding the HP thing, sometimes I swear this works when low HP, but other times not so much..

We used to hand tame everything for server transfers, so we've done a freakish amount of taming, we stopped doing the lower HP thing and just dump tames at it and I can't really confirm that HP matters at all. There were times that an Alice tamed in 1 tame, and the next day a Spore took me 160 tames to work (seriously that shift sucked).

If it works for you, then that is your unique voodoo so run with it.

I went thru 50 Boy's Pure Hearts to try to get a Succubus that had only a few HP left

The first hint is essential though.
I didn't pay attention in my first run taming Shinobi and threw 30 tames away until I realised that this was a "clone"... -.-
Luckily, I was able to tame 5 Shinobi's with the next 23 tames.

urban myths, just check for upgrading "techniques" to see the same thing there. I watched a char on valk in at the upgrade NPC use *first aid* after each upgrade to simulate RPS lol.

Some people also swear by the pokie machine itself, initially i thought i really was in control of that thing years ago

Oh man, it sounds like you can't just GM cheat the item and slap some intamacy on it. How obscure.
