I just discovered something.

I was messing about refining some relatively low level gear for my 80 (ish) noob hawker character and decided to go beyond level 5 which is where i normally stop on lowbies.

First I took a hat up to 7 then it failed going to 8 and dropped back down two levels (just like it should). I just left it at 5. Couldn't be bothered with it really.

Next i took a pair of boots up to 5 then just for giggles added a couple of red powders to see if it would make any difference.
The notice said "if you fail then your item will be downgraded"
it failed
Then up pops a notice to say that my item would disappear in a moment.
Sure enough it disappeared

Seemed a bit weird so i tried refining a few more trash items to test it.

Each time I went beyond 5 without any catalysts, it just downgraded 2 levels on fail. (as it is supposed to)
BUT
Every time i added a cat to the mix instead of downgrading the item disappears

i tried this on several different trash items just to confirm it and every single time i tried to go above 5 with a cat, the item disappears on failure even though it is supposed to just downgrade.

I've refined alot during this event and I can't say I've seen anything break like that. It might be a bug with the refine grade (Refining grade 6-8 items I haven't seen that problem).

Thats weird. I refined quite a few things at Breezy Hills and Zant yesterday. I had no problems taking them all from 0 to 10 with and without catalysts.

I was refining an item and got the message once that said item would disappear, but it was still there.

I was using 3rd grade items.
The one that disappeared was a "Legendary Black Pirate Shoe" with 12 AP. Not exactly the most sought after item in the game but still it wasn't bad.
It definitely disappeared going from 5 to 6, as did a couple of other basic items that I tested with.
I have others so I don't really care. Just reporting a potential issue so that others can try to avoid it happening with something that actually matters.

its also silly that when you are refining

it takes goddamn long unless if you minimize/maximize all the time

Does the Zant smith actually refine at a reasonable speed now? I quit using him because he's 20x slower than JP

--I experience something similar, (it told me the item will disappear when it failed going 7 -> 8) but then it coincided with my running out of bindrunes, and my item DID NOT DISAPPEAR, it only went back to the inventory.

I can confirm this too. The pop up window said "Item will disappear in a moment" but actually it went back to my inventory. The bug is the pop up window, they need to fix the dialog in the pop up, that's all. I've seen this problem for awhile but it does not bother me at all.

I saw this problem too, and it make me so worried. It pop up around grade 8-10, but now my katar sold to other player. I'm not sure if its already disappeared.

--I can now confirm that this is replicable:
Leave 10 cata in inventory, use this to refine, but click "max".

"Bug window" appears on failure.
