Unfortunately I'm not good at explaining the many aspects of this game, there are probably a few on the forum that can do it very well. I do know however that I have been playing since 2004 I still can't quit this game.

I always recommend staying at the training grounds till about lvl 12. After that going to the eden group can help you level rather quickly with there quests. Depending on what server you want to join will be determined by VIP subscription.

Valk server is completely free, Ymir server needs VIP in order to create characters. However if create a character on Ymir you can always access that character and play even if you no longer have a VIP subscription. The third server YGG I don't know much about since I have never been to that server.

Characters are split into several different classes. You can view them on the playragnarok.com site on the left column under classes. There is also alot of information at irowiki.org
