I've been looking into gearing a battle priest, and I'm not a particularly rich player. People keep pointing out the new equipment in Episode 14.1, but I was wondering if anyone had any idea on the difficulty of obtaining these items. That way I could start investing now in a general set if they are hard to get, or just wait til they are released and not worry about an in-between set of gear if they aren't too hard.

I don't know a whole lot about 14.1, but I will say that battle priests aren't too hard to equip with cheaper gears. We do decently well even without expensive gears because of our fancy buffs. If you are a crit BP, I say focus on getting a Veteran Hammer first, then worry about the rest of your gear. That thing will carry you pretty far.
