Last I heard, and I don't know if its true because I don't use RCX, but some of them managed to by pass that.

Do you really want a GM automaton going around unchecked swinging the mute/ban hammer then having to send in a ticket and wait to get it fixed? I don't know about anyone else but I like the feeling of having a human being swinigng the banhammer rather than an AI that can foul up and go berserk.

In any way, bots bypass the usual mute filter because they don't use the official RO client. And for some reason, the mute filter isn't / can't be on the server-side. That's why I suggested an automated GM character / bot to check the chat and auto-mute characters that type the same sentence or anything at lightspeed, just the way it's done client-side. I am uncertain how an AI that is programmed to check this specific behavior can foul up and go berserk, unless you have a really bad programmer. If it fouls up like you say, you'll see it fast enough during testing, not at some random point in time (assuming the programmer / tester does know how to properly test).

We are talking about Gravity here. Bad code and no testing is assumed in all situations.

I would just make a spam bot monitoring program.

Have the hidden GM bot run around town and when it finds massive spam, it takes note of that users name / location / IP / Time / Etc. This data is uploaded to a simple database and a nice easy to use map of pront which the GMs can alt tab to at their leisure. When it gets to the point there is too many spam bots around or they feel like its time to mute some spammers, the GMs have all the trouble spots on an easy to use map.

Of course, all this data can be analyzed later to figure out when there are troble times / locations and to better understand the habits of these spam botters.

Using a phone might actualy be a good idea, like when you register you get sent a text to your number with a code that you enter to finish the registration. if an account linked to that number is banned then you wouldent be able to register anymore with it unless you mail the gms or something

theres already pay by phone here in India :D

All of these ideas would work in a perfect world but things like proxies exists, and the spammers utilize them extensively.

Duplicate prontera would not fool a bot, the map id wouldn't match where it is set to go and at best it would just log out. If a GM is going to the trouble of moving them we mute them anyway and block them.

SSN there is no verification of it, and our company wouldn't want to be responsible for storing your SSN as in the US that would be a dubious legality and difficulty in verifying. Some countries do use SSN, but they have different uses there than in the US.

The start up fee for an account is something that could work, as long as we didn't accept the payment methods that can be charged back, which means using ones that may not be convenient for that player. It also is a significant impact on new user registrations. How many of you would have ever tried RO at all if you had to pay a fee just to sign up? Personally I think many would just go over to some other Free Game instead of paying money on a "may be a cool game". It is free purely for marketting and expansion purposes. As an MMO there are always players coming in and going out, it is built into the assumed life of the game. The amount of players going out isn't going to change in a good way if we block new account registrations, but the amount coming in certainly will.

Right now lots of manpower "could" solve the problem of those registrations, or we can work on removing what inconveniences they put in place on the players, like the botters, and the shouters. The inconvenience and annoyance they cause players are the #1 issues for us, not the bandwidth or resources of ours that they are using.

i got an idea
give a FEW active, EXPERIENCED and legit accounts power to mute, but have a log record of who is muting whom
so tht it cannot be misused. It will be better as the players usually hang out in these place and the GMs dont have to bother tht much either

Who the hell would give players the power to do this? Lmao might as well be a corrupted p-server. I don't see anyone doing this legit or not.

Even just limited power is something they are not willing to do, and I don't blame them.

  • More or less, it was hinted as it not being possible
  • Because of the abuse factor, even with logging and such it still might not prevent the act from happening, you could get it right 1000 times and it would only take 1 time to get it wrong and the community would be outraged
  • Perhaps the worst of all, what happens if that account is hacked?
The only way this would happen is if they made you a contracted out resource to steer clear of liability issues.

Food for thought, even GMs aren't allowed to log into their GM accounts outside the office.

HOW TO WARP BOT

Need at least 2 character a wiz and a priest + a lv 8 fencer with Bowling bash or a knight/chaser with manhole.
"just need 3 hour of afking with a lv 4 fencer in ant hell to get enough loyalt point" to b able to hired a lv 8 fencer from Outside Islude Swordsman Guild out side"

Step 1 get a wiz to ice wall on top of the BOT "NAME"
Step 2 Cast Bowling Bash SKill/manhole on the "Bot NAME" by using SHIFT + SKILL Shorcut on it name to mowed it
Step 3 after knowing the "Movement direction Cast"
Step 4 Place a pre~ warp on the spot "Movement direction Cast"
Step 5 Repeat step 1~ 3 and cast the warp when the Bot is on the pre warp spot..

Something that will hopefully help combat them is coming soon. We'll see though.
