dude. 40% doesn't mean that if you try to refine 3x then you'll eventually going to have a success by the third time. it jst means 40% chance each time you refine. So, the formula would be based on probablity ~> if you try to refine an item & you've just refined 5x then the chance that you've just refined within that 5x would be ( .4 x 5 ) because each refine is 40% then ( .4 x 5 / (the number of ore's you'll be using more x the number of refining of what you just did which is 5) = answer. i think its 10%+ within each 5x not each refine - of course it gets lower the more you try to refine because it's lower the chance is lower than 50% so it wont be even. but, the more ores you will be using the more you will less worry about. yea, it's complicated.

Its called the gamblers trap.

40% chance, if you bet twice and lose twice, then you are SURE to win the 3rd time, right? If you lose again, then your chances of winning the FOURTH time are even better! Keep pouring money in!
When in fact, the 40% from previous wins/loses has absolutely no effect on this time.

Speaking of time, the "random chance" function that the Ragnarok server has, uses time as the random number generator seed. So, the time that you upgrade the item has an effect on your success =)

Just an unlucky streak.
I didn't have much of a problem getting a few gears to 7.

Statistically, it's possible for youy to never ever succeed at upgrading +6 to +7, since it's 60% failure rate.

fact, however, while your armor breaks, your cert remains safe (regardless of outcome)

on second thought, even w/o cert you can still do it

If you have enriched and a cert you're really just using enriched alone.

The rates aren't rigged. It's actually about right if you take a large sample size.

take my word:

Never use the certificate if you don't have normal ores or have enriched in your inventory.

40% is an -average- of 40/100... which you would assume is 4/10 or 2/5. But that's just the number-trap. Chance is chance, for example, you try 5 times, fail all of them. Someone tries 5 time 4 success 1 fail. Doesn't seem fair? No but that would be "40%" by your own figuration, as there's 4/10 successes... just one of the two people had the success and the other had none.

You're just on the unlucky side really, and that's how life is. Now if you'd put a significant number in.... then yeah.

For reference, I'm the kind of person who would use enriched at +4-+5 and fail... twice in a row. Even though it's supposedly 90% chance.

Never use certs going from +4 to +5 on Armor/Lv4 Weapons. Even if there's a chance to break, it's better than failing on upgrade certs trying to get to +5.

There's plenty worth using a certificate on going to +5.
I don't care if enriched does give a 90%(?) chance of succeeding to +5, if you're upgrading something worth 100M+ you should be busting out those certificates.

I suppose you're right on that. It's not worth it for things worth below 90m though.

If you're overupgrading KVM gears you definitely have to use these certificates.

You can't use a cert if you only have enriched in your inventory, because enriched and certs use different NPC's.
