I haven't played in months, possibly a year by now... Anyway...

What's the primary function of the twin fighter and shaman?
More specifically, is the Shaman any fun playing for someone who likes to deal damage and/or be useful in a party?
Lastly, are there any race bonuses like in other games?

Thanks in advance.

There are no race bonuses as far as I know. Twin Fighters are DPS, and good ones at that, while Shamans play more of a support role, by disabling and holding targets into place and letting their summons kill. But Shamans still have devastating skills, with a cast time for most of them, however. They're both hard to control at first due to the number of skills being overwhelming, and the variety of playing styles. Don't get mind-blown if you try them out at first, since level 20-26 are the hardest because your damage is low. Aqua weapons are gonna boost that damage by a lot and make things really easy. And by level 27, you would've already learned how to play the classes well.

It was extremely difficult to play the Shaman at first, but later on you will get used to the lengthy cast times and whatnot. Once there are more skills available to you, you will easily get into the hang of it ~ Shamans deal pretty good PvE damage if player properly. Smare shot and summons groggy the boss very quickly as well... Smare Shot serves well for single-target DPS and although it isn't as speedy as the Invoker's Double Shot, it is still very effective.
