Ive been asked by a few people to see if we can get a thread going on just the topics of quests and events. So here it is. This thread can be used for you guys to talk about what kind of events you are looking for or new quests that you would like to see come into the game. So as an example ill use my favorite quest The Crow of Destiny.
"Well, i would love to see a second part of the crow of destiny quest. When i finished it i felt there were many unanswered questions and i would really like to find out what is next"
Something like that would be nice to see in this thread. So please no trolling, making rediculous remarks, or just being disruptive.

Oda and Heim have gone on about them "Writing quests" in the past. So i'm assuming they have access to some form of scripting API.
If so, it would be good to share this with people who are interested in writing quests, as they can know the limitations and capabilities of the language.
The big things for us are dialog and where people go, and what they do when they get there. RO's scripting is a tricky beastie even in optimal conditions, so there are some things that aren't yet possible to do during a quest. Still, we are constantly discovering new things we're able to do in quests and we have PLENTY of cool looking but under-used maps that need some reasons for people to visit them.
First thing I wanted to discuss was the Upgrade event npc. I have not gotten to try it out yet, but from what I am hearing it is going well. I'm sure ya'll are still playing a bit with it. Perhaps there should be even higher rewards than there is currently. I see that it only goes up to +9. Is it possible to go past +10 and such with this? you could add really epic rewards for people who get lucky enough to get to say +10 +12 and higher. You could have stuff like MCAs maybe 9>10 upgrade of choice or something like that.
Also another thought. We had those one quests some time back, where you had to go back and forth to places like amatsu and LY. Pretty much all the places at the docks. I felt like a tourist on vacation. Perhaps we could expand on that idea since RO is such a large place. Could take people to various spots in RO. Like the mountain top in commodo. ROAD TRIP

Yea the upgrade machine seems to be a big hit atm. I know ive done it on basically every alt i own lol. I can def see this as something that stays in the game for people to enjoy. I do like the idea of using a 10-12 range for better items. Maybe we can do something where it changes every week. So one week you may get an MCA the next we could be something like one of the new hats that came out in the kafra shop or something along those lines.
I was thinking the upgrade machine could be a monthly things. Run it for a week then next month change the items around a bit. Even though I hate to suggest this, it might be a good idea to add a small zeny fee to this. Perhaps 5k zeny or something silly.
I agree something needs to be done with older quests. There is some very good stories from some of these. More EXP on them would be great. Or possibly add another rewards like you did with the seals. You could add eden badges for instance.
One quest I would like to see worked on a bit is the sign quest. Isn't that IRO exclusive or was? I'd love to see that quest get some loving.
How about...
Summer Plants (since fall is coming up)
Kill counts for the Viens, Rachel, Hugel, Enbrotch and Light, maps?
Gunslinger, Teakwon Master, Super Novice, Soul Linker and Ninja (Leveling) events.
Double the EXP for quests in those areas,
Double the winnings from the Race Track.
Increase your winnings from the Tic-Tac-Toe by 5.
Cool and Fun screenshots of Non-Trans characters.
I wouldn't mind if we started compiling a list of quests that are worth doing, either because the rewards are pretty cool, or because the story is really interesting.
I actually cried during the Lighthalzen Friendship Quest >_>

@Summer Plants- I dont understand this? And also isnt it already fall? I think the first day of fall was sept 23rd @Kill counts-we have these. Raf were just last week. We had ein mine a few weeks earlier... @Expanded class- Hmm interesting...though other than the super novices (now that they can 150) would others wan2 do this? @Double exp-From monsters in certain areas? @Double Winnings- You mean the Turbo Track? Or the Monster races? Either way i would love to see something done with both @Tic-Tac-Toe- I actually dont know what this is (in game i mean) @SS- what would you wan2 do with this? Just like a photo album on the forums?

This is what i actually wan2 know. I mean i know my favorite quests, but others may have ones that they enjoyed as well.
Btw the friendship quest is another one of my fav's..../sob
Some quests I liked doing. I recommend doing pretty much all of the access quests. They usually have a nice story behind them if you pay attention to them.

-Enable other players to use the skill summon plant, like Geographs to heal a our small band of hero's. -Not just for the maps, but dungeons as well. -Double EXP on the quests that take you to those areas such as the Friendship Quest -For both -Very Fun game if you have "REAL" friends. Photo Album for the Forums and for the main page.
Agree with ^ really interested in STORY - LINES within the quests such as BIO mosters and Thanatos Tower. I think those two are my most interested story lines that should be implemented into a quest or something. There are "hints" and stuff around RO but not a full story. Maybe like how Thanatos became a ghost demon monster crap and wants to fight adventurers and all that. I mean, if there is a full story somewhere please PM me the info. Otherwise id like to see em implemented
I posted this once a while back, but I would like to see more special dungeons like Overlook. Brings some use to unused dungeons and have fun partying while you are at it with a nice free card at the end. Payon dungeon would be a nice one perhaps. Could even offer just a OCA if you don't want to pick a card from the dungeon.
But here's the catch, tl:dr is the common response to nearly all of iro's quests. There has to be a new way to interact with the quests, at lease have TTS for some of the longer quests. Even though it would look like a low budget anime, the use of the full screen pictures (like the one posted by TK) with voice actors would easily offer a new way to interact with players.
I think for most, this can give the game a better "anime style" feel not really found in other games. Possibly, they should try creating more still animation of the Kafra's for when you Save, Select Storage, ect.
Adding more quests to the world that aren't just "bring me 100 fox heads" is something I definitely want to do. Eventually we also want to have high level dungeons (possibly instanced raids and such) and overlook like things added.
Escort quests could probably be done to make it interesting. Basically have an invincible mercenary follow along and talk in the chat boxes. Maybe even make them really useful mercenaries so they'd be really cool to have around for the duration of the quest. That way, you learn story during the quest rather than at specific checkpoints between poring kills.
Another idea is a "Global Raid" instance. Everyone participates at specific times for fun times and cake.
@KataiKou
It would be an easy implementation if they built on top of the codec for the Humon or Mercenary's. That would be interesting to have to escort a "player"... heck that would be a little more realistic for the Lost Siblings quest.
@Oda
So you need for use to write scripts? Because most of the fan base here have written some pretty amazing "fan fics".
As for the Dungeon Instance, can we be able to have 3 levels of difficulty. (Trying to find the example on the locked thread...)
Edited by TheUraharaShop, 05 October 2011 - 11:17 AM.
The rooms would be set up like a PVP room and Endless Tower Instance pushing (and cycling players) our every few ours (based on server time). Prerequisites to access higher difficulty could be dependent on completing quests within dungeon instance or completing the one of lower difficulty of the same or different dungeon. In addition it could include kill counts or item hunts for item drops with in that dungeon. Put items like Golden Panties and Golden Mace for turn ins or Items that increase and decrease damage from Insects.
Aside from boosting the rewards for existing storyline quests, more permanent quest additions would be nice.
It's nice to have an excuse to see the world. Perhaps give an explorer badge or something upon completion for people to collect and redeem for something to show off.
World Tours
Spoiler
Something fun I remember from back on my Chaos days was walking all the way from Umbala to Juno. XD I think it would be fun to set up some quests to tour the world, with really the only goal being to travel from map to map in a way that people usually don't bother with anymore (y'know... walking). Perhaps different tours open up as you complete them and you can be sent to explore harder areas (for nicer prizes). To make it more encouraging to team up, perhaps make it so only one set of items is needed for the entire party (of course kill counts would be shared as normal). Give them something to do while on the map though, to discourage just flywinging to the npc. It's kind of crazy that lately people don't know how to walk from Pront to Geffen or the like... or are too fearful or lazy to try. While the low level quests can be short and basic, at higher levels, a player shouldn't have any trouble going all the way from Veins to Alde or something.
The player is is sent to a starting map, most likely just outside of a town. At the map entrance portal, there's a signpost with a blurb about the quest and items that you need to collect/monsters you need to kill on that map. There are some nice possibilities for huge, long trips at higher levels. I guess the easiest thing to do would be an example... well, maybe a simplified example, but for a new player, maybe simple is good.
A nice newbie place to start would be Alberta (pay_fild03). The signpost can tell you Welcome to Alberta, Payon is to the Northwest, past the forest. If you're on the tour, head north to continue your journey. Make sure to collect the following items while you're here:
10 jellopy 10 clover 10 chrysalis 10 tree root
Or... something. Those who are on the tour can get the information in their quest log. When you arrive at the south portal of pay_fild07, you find another post. Head to the west to continue your journey. Bring the following items along with you:
On to pay_fild01, you find the last post. To the north is the town of Payon. Find our staff there to complete your tour and receive a prize for participation. **Get a Bonus ticket from our staff in this area for an extra special reward**
The staff NPC can be found at some out of the way corner of the map. Good job, adventurer! I hope this experience encourages you to continue exploring. Take this ticket to the tour staff and you'll get something... nice.
In Payon, you find the tour staff, hand in your items and/or ticket and receive your reward. Reward possibilities for the low level one?
for normal tour: some exp some potions, concentration potions, novice flywings airship tickets
for tour bonus: coloured butterfly wings dungeon scrolls
Scavenger Hunts
Spoiler
Daily/weekly repeatable quests to collect random junk items. Make the items things that are unlikely to be hoarded or hunted normally, and make the possible list of items large enough to encourage people to go out and hunt at least some of them instead of just hitting storage. Turn in a set of items within a time limit for a small prize.
For example, one day the NPC can request barren trunk, cursed ruby, memento, slingshot, pecopeco feather and red herb.
Reward possibilities?
low level stat foods cake (rune strawberry, korean rice cake, rainbow cake, etc) speed potion
Job Specific quests would be ideal for earning job exp and feel more appropriate than relying on TIs in general to close the gap between base levels and job levels. Each class could have quests designed so it's not just easier for a certain class to complete, but they should try to teach players more about that class and skills that they'll find useful in the rest of the game. They can maybe remain repeatable for practice, but only give the reward the first time.
First Class quests
Spoiler
Getting to second class right now is pretty damn fast. It'd be a nice time for more tutorials before they job change. It might be fun to revamp and expand on the old job change quests for these.
For example,
Thief Mushroom Hunt Thieves can once again groan at the thought of mushroom collecting. Have monsters there that can easily kill the character (no exp loss on the map) and force them back outside, forcing you to hide, dodge, and be generally sneaky to get your shrooms in peace. Add an exciting escape from the mushroom farmer and his minions which utilizes backslide nicely.
Mage Potion Making Instead of going out to hunt fluff and jellopy, use appropriate spells on the machine, elemental quiz style. (Since when do mages make potions anyway?) Neutralize the magic potion with the appropriate element, chosen from a menu, to make a successful potion and hand it in before the experiment goes horribly wrong and you get to practice your firewall/safety wall/running like hell skills with the resulting hideous monster (who just happens to have super high mdef), keeping it alive, but not eating your legs for 30 seconds or so.
New to Second Class quests
Spoiler
Add quests for early on in the job to get some skills with which to level. It might be nice to give subtle hints for which are the best/most popular skills to get for the class.
For example,
New to Knight can have a quest on a special map with visible gutterlines marked by some kind of decoration to explain bowling bash so a player won't be confused later when they encounter them.
Pre-3rd Class Training
Spoiler
Have some difficult, high jexp rewards for level 95+. It would take the edge off those last few job levels for trans and probably be good for players to get practiced with more difficult things before they hit 3rd. As well as the jexp, maybe hooking up the player with some missing basic gear or cards would be nice, as well - things like elemental armor cards are pretty much necessary later on.
New to 3rd Class quests
Spoiler
Once again, it's much more fun to play when you have a couple skills to use. A little boost right after job changing to 3rd would be very encouraging to most players. It'd be very nice to lure fresh thirds away from the now overcrowded maps like magmarings and get them to play out of their comfort zone a little.
Daily Job Specific Quests
Spoiler
Aside from some exp, this would be a nice way to earn consumables and supplies to play your class. An SinX being able to earn karvodailnirol or genetic earning cooking supplies.
Assassins can go find and assassinate someone as a quest monster.
Knights can protect a village by killing the invading thugs.
More storyline quests please!
These might be a little more difficult since they have to mesh with RO lore, but I think there's a lot of possibilities still.
Learn more about the fun and wacky monsters in the game, give them some backstories and some personality. There have been a couple quests like this and I find them fun. :0
Add some more NPCs with fun stories to amuse us and/or make us a little sad or creeped out.
I think the main thing with storyline quests is... the ones where you just click through dialogue are not as interesting. Yes, there is going to be talking to NPCs and collecting items, but the ones where you add little games, fights, puzzles and exploration are definitely more interesting. Challenging quests are also great, provided the rewards are appropriate.
Payon
Spoiler
Bongun/Munak/Sohee love triangles were always kind of amusing somehow. XD I'd love a permanent little quest with those lovey-dovey zombies, maybe include the Her Heart quest in there somewhere. In a not-entirely-serious request, a quest to give Moonie some pants.
Morroc
Spoiler
Whenever I go here, it's kind of depressing. It's like my hometown just got blown up. It's taking a loooong time to fix, so maybe until it is, we adventurers can help out? This is more of a personal thing, 'cause I just hate seeing Morroc in such a state and no one's doing anything to fix it... >.>;
Maybe we can earn the poor town some funding for repairs by taking on mercenary work or something like that. They must be pretty low on resources when they can't even put up tents.
GH
Spoiler
You know where needs some epic storyline questing? Glast Heim. :0 The place is huge and mysterious and spooky and has unfortunately lost its magic over the years. It would be great for more people to wander around the maps they don't usually go to there and purge the evil. :U (I only demand that no matter what is done that you find a little acolyte NPC resting on the cross in the churchyard.)
Perhaps you can save some poor souls in the prisons. Break a curse. I dunno. It would be nice to add a little SuperSaiyan Dark Lord instance or something at the end.
Speaking of spooky things, I think we NEED to have a Niflheim Christmas. Insert Nightmare Before Christmas references here.
