I tested the defense using both a +6 shackle and a +6 hard saints robe, and a +6 buckler.
+6 Buckler = 40 defense + 6 upgrades = 48 defense
+6 Saints Robe = 50 defense + 6 upgrades = 58 defense
+6 Shackles = 18 defense + 6 upgrades = 23 defense : It should be 26 defense
If I'm not mistaken, upgrades above +4 give 2 defense rather than 1, for at least +5 and +6. That seems to be the upgrade bonus as it appears to work with all my +5-6 gears.
As of now, the +6 shackles are giving me only 23 defense, when they should be giving 26 defense. Please fix them. Thanks.
Shackles don't give proper defense.

More likely the base defense of shackles doesn't match what is shown in the description window.
