There's been a great deal of passionate and reasoned discussion these past days on the somewhat abrupt and ill-conceived changes to green ales, which has been wonderful. As it's obvious from the debate however, the issue itself is polarizing and I doubt any actual consensus can be reached in a short time. While the anti-green ale group expressed strong and legitimate arguments regarding the inherent imbalance of green ales and its game changing nature as well as its power concentrating effect, the pro-green ale advocates have demonstrated that green ales are a necessary evil given renewal mechanics, the current WOE scenario and its limited scope of effect on the wider population.

The reason why the GMs opened the pandora box now seems to be clear. Bug exploiters, rather than the usual farming bot suspects, have been using the St Patrick's Hat to flood the economy with tens of thousands of ales. In order to limit the damage to the economy and the game, the GMs - in good faith, to their credit - were obliged to stem the crisis by severely curtailing the use and transfer of green ales. I wonder, however, if this is a good solution, or the only solution. Our discussions reveal that any changes to green ales will likely be extremely controversial. Yet, anything short of an extremely controversial change is unlikely to remedy the bug exploitation issue. And here, we have an impasse.

I propose that we set aside the issue of green ales for the time being (ie no changes at all) until the skill balance patch/14.1 sets in when we'd have a clearer sense of how things stand. Instead, I propose that we address the bug exploitation issue directly by disabling the St Patrick's Hat completely. That will also achieve the effect of stopping any and all future supply of green ales into the economy. Perhaps in 2 months, green ales will be so scarce or the price so prohibitive that this issue will be rendered moot and we can all get along again. In order to compensate current St Patrick's Hat owners, I suggest that the GM's implement a Boxter for which they can use to exchange the hat for something of equivalent value (2000 hugel medals/previous kafra box hats/etc).

My impression is that no one will feel shafted this way but I'd be delighted to hear what the community and Hat owners think.

If the St. P hat is taken out in the future then I would want a spare card in return.

I don't really use the green ales, I just want to sell them. So if I can't use the St. P hat for selling then I would want a spare card to sell the blanks.

Other people were suggesting things like +10 stat food, yeah right. Only if GMs were giving me a lifetime of +10 stat food that I could sell.

To me, the only thing that would be equal compensation would be an item that gives me drops that I could sell like ales.

Giving me an item(s) I can only use once is not good compensation. The St. P hat dropped ales over and over so I would need another item that dropped something valuable over and over.

but I'd be delighted to hear what the community and Hat owners think.

This is the only reason I'm replying to this topic, since I'm not affected by the whole Green Ale debatte.

I don't want the hat to be gone. I myself have it on +7 since it came ingame, but honestly, as soon as the Custom Tab comes ingame, the hat wanders to the Custom Tab.
I love the look of the hat, it's cute, very fitting with Four Leaf Clover and it looks great on my Huntress.

This said, I'm personally fine with everything as long as the Hat stays ingame which whatever affect.

But that's just me, because (as I said) I'm not affected by the whole Green Ale Story. I may have 20 in total, never went out hunting some and I have no reason to argue against or for them, since I'm not playing WoE and I don't care what equip and pots the player next to me in PvM uses, honestly XD

(I understand though that the Green Ales have to be nerved in a way, since they're just OP. But on the same time I think that normal potions have to be improved as well)

I agree that disabling the hat completely would solve the bot problem. People that still have a stash of green ales can still use them or sell them. As long as they give some kind of compensation for the hat, then it would be fair for everyone.

How does making the hat with a level restriction gonna stop botters. There are high level botters in the game.

wich are easier to catch and are less, now that the hat its account bound no one will put in risk their main accounts, its not the same as having like 9999999999999999999 rogues and sins around comodo? OF COURSE NOT

mmm.... well the hat itself is worth around 100m, plus the 50m-ish i spent ugrading it, and the lost opportunity of getting 1k ales weekly, which sell for 150k at this time, that makes another 150m per week, say from today until april next year.................

i'll take 2.7b

edit: alrite 2.2b will be fine, can´t carry more on one char anyway

I would be willing to give up my St. Patricks hat in exchange for these two things:

1) +10 garuda hat
2) +9 christmas tree hat.

Otherwise no deal. That hat is WAY too important to how I play the game. I pretty much made my main character to be an item farmer (axe tornado mechanic) based around that hat and all the others that drop items.
