Another semi-sensical response to my dearest Okii:
(a little psychological means of assessing)

Reasons for playing: chat/pvp/mythology
Motivation: getting stronger/killing with style/achieving other people never did/story quests
Knowledge Database: I know Norse Mythology. Ragnarok story doesn't revolve in the end of the world in-game.
Now its about chasing a satan fleeing on an alien area.

Extra: Ragnarok game contains: Norse, Greek, Roman, Irish, Germanic mythology.
Taekwon is a biased character, the only one which came out in the modern world and not an ancient art compared to other classes. (darn korea)
Scandanavian people are pagans and there those days already existed christians. Means priests are on par with the game.

Another reason of playing this to end my last paragraph:
I HATE games where you choose your race so Allods,WoW,Mabinogi and other things deserve my midde finger.

PSS: it also consumes low bandwidth. Otherwise i'd play LoL or Jade Dynasty

Um ok I have to completely agree with him. I like the freedom of the game. Including the Norse Mythology. It . . . . makes me happy
Also I like meeting new people. Over coming a hard quest that i just so happen to be stuck on or better, finding out something new about the game that relates to the story. Personally I do like my games to have a point, but I am sure not every one plays the game just to Grind or just for the story.
So in truth I could care less to become the most powerful or riches person in RO, as long as I can kick an MVP's butt with a cool party and a few friends I am great!!!

Originally, RO wasn't really meant as an MMORPG, but as an Dating Platform. This is why you can't choose the gender of a single char, only for an whole Account.
In Korea, you need your social number to make an Account, so your account always has your own gender. This became loose of course, RO became much more of an MMORPG with the time and even in Korea, people sometimes multi client with accounts made with the KSSN of family members ;3
But you can sense this original purpose still in the game somehow. RO is like a village - no matter where you are, you stumble about someone you met before somewhere ^^
For example, as I joined a Biolabs TI yesterday, I recognized someone in the party I met on another character month ago and just had a nice chat.
Also, it still works a bit as a dating platform. I met my boyfriend (who sits next to me playing Battlefield 3 atm XD) in RO - and I know I'm not the only one with such a story :Emo_18:

What is RO for me?
Well.. I have just fun playing it.
I don't care about all the competition stuff like WoE or PvP, MvP is fun but also not that important to me.
I just enjoy playing my characters. In the 6 years I played on euRO, I wasn't be able to play a single char till max-level (99/70), because I used to switch around characters and also doing alot stuff besides leveling. Like basic chatting or morphing XD
Today... well, my Arc Bishop is soon to be max level I guess (144/4x right now) - and I have still 17 more characters to play. If I really played all characters to 150/50... I may just start a new account. Making Quests, collecting headgears - or simple go out and hunt monsters for no particiular reason. It's the gameplay that attracs me most. I find RO is way more dynamic in it's fighting system than other MMO's.
In most of them, you lock on a Monster and press buttons (1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 5, ...) till it's dead, rince and repeat. This way, every character feels the same, you don't really have a difference...

In RO: You have to walk precies to mob. You have to know how to move around the monsters, so you won't get hit and come into hitlock.
Than you have different ways to fight. Alone with activating the skill you wanna use and selecting a target afterwards you have more "action" than the other games. If you play an Assassin, it's still different from a Hunter. If you play a Priest, it's way different from a Knight. And so on. Every character, AND EVERY BUILD, feels different. That's why I love the combat system of RO so much ^^

Also, RO is a big inspiration for me. I often spend more time on RO out of the game than actually in the game - drawing, sprite editing, writing, and so on.
RO is my biggest hobby since 2004 ^.^ and that speaks for itself I think :3

Yet another statment I agree with, (Other then the dating, in school atm and have no time ha ha)

Another thing
For me the biggest thing is not getting to a level of beating players or doing something better then another, (Mainly speaking of smiths and chems.) But is the monsters and killing them. Right now I am like a level 40 something High swords man and it s not that I am having trouble killing orcs but I think sometimes, "I can't wait till I can seize on this guy and do a 1000 damage, (not saying that will ever happen but you get the point) live every game for me it is the journey. In truth I have only done one story quest in the whole game so I know nothing of the story yet I love playing RO seemingly with for no reason. I guess it is the "Hell yea!!" part of the game that makes me keep coming back. Indeed I do wish for more sprites and hairstyles and most deff WINGS!!!! but I can play with out it and i want every GM to know that there are very Few things I would change about the game. Maybe some more story partys quest to get people more involved. and tone down the "brokness" of certain classes just a little, and maybe add a city out side of PVP where pk and rain or something either way. The game is unique and allows for a free over all adjustment of his or her own character which is something most system games (360,ps2, etc) do not offer. So I in my, no so expert opinion do not think Ro needs a "Point" per say, but a Jump start to point people in some common direction then allow them to branch off from there. Either way GG to Gravity. I think they did a Darn good job.

This... is so wrong in so many things...
Not only that Freya isn't the god of destruction, but the god of fertility (allthough she wouldn't draw back from a fight as well, she isn't a wargoddess!), but considering Manuk and Alfheim as Kingdoms of Midgard? Not only that, giving Schwartzwalt and Arunafeltz the name "Kingdom" as well?
This Story of RO PSP definatly has to take place in another universe, a parallel dimension or such.
1. Arunafeltz and Schwartzwalt aren't Kingdoms, they're not a monarchy like Rune-Midgart. Schwartzwalt is a Republic and Arunafeltz is reffered as "State".
2. Manuk is in the New World, as well as Splendit. They're in another dimension!
3. Alfheim? If Grav doesn't plan to put them in the same dimension as Manuk, it's a different dimension - again! For the Manwha, Alfheim is what we now know as Geffenia - the ancient city of the elfs. For the mythology, it would be fitting to bring it to another world.

Don't get me wrong, I belive you that it's described that way in the PSP Game, but it doesn't fit the online game at all except the fact that the basic story is concerned about the world slowly heading towards Ragnarök.

PSP game? I never ever mentionned the PSP game. I'm talking about Ragnarok 1 ( The mmo we all play and supposedly love) And RO2, another mmo which is a sequel to ro1, which is not yet released.

Yes, ro took some liberty in modifying the norse mythology. In ro, Freya is evil.
Did you even read the Rachel sanctuary quests, the nameless monestary and necessary veins quests, along with the new world quests?

In ro, Rune-Midgard is the country south of, and including, aldebaran. It's not the mythological Midgard. Arunafeltz might be reffered to as a "state" but it has it's own laws and army nonetheless. Same for Schwartzwalt, I only reffered to them as kindgom for simplicity's sake ( That's also how the tripartite union feud refers to them: The kingdoms of Midgard, Arunafeltz and Schwartzwalt).

Yes, manuk and splendide are in the new world, but if you read the quests, you would've known that both are attached to Yggdrasil, and both are affected by the resurection of morroc.

way to missread everything btw~

In any case, ro's story is way slower than WoW. In one WoW expension, you meet a bad guy, he almost destroys the world and you kick his ass, in one fell swoop, never to hear about him ever again. In ro, we kinda sorta kicked morroc's ass, but then he fled and we've been hunting for him for what? 3~4 episodes now?

POINT IS:
Ro story is really interresting and complex, the problem is, you have to connect the dots that are left here and there. Not only that, but it's easy to skip parts that would let you understand everything. Because of that, the number of people that even bother is so low, even fungi-neers doesn't know half of it.

Did anyone ELSE notice the cat hand person outside of manuk refers ( or refered, I haven't been there since manuk was put in...) to it as Jotunheimr, the land of the frost Giants. And look at that, those manukians are giant people and it's pretty frosty over there! Or that the elves in Splendide refers are homesick, and that a the perfume from a flower from Alfheim cures them? Or that Every biolab monsters have an npc version that are either from the sign quest or the god seals, or from a job change? And that there's no king in Rune-Midgard and that every princes are dead from a "curse" but the church is trying to hide it? Or that a few npcs in juno talks about living dolls( the robots from juperos actually...)

Mixed up RO2 with the PSP game, sorry, my mistake. Still wrong :Emo_18:
Freya isn't evil in RO, her belivers are evil minded. It's like saying Alla is an evil god just because some fanatics of the religion have wrong thoughts about him.
Or saying God is evil because some christs are extrem and violent.

And Midgard is the combination of Rune-Midgart, Schwartzwalt and Arunafeltz :)
And of course is the new world connected to Yggdrasil - because EVERY WORLD is connected to the WORLD TREE Yggdrasil - that's basic norse knowledge XD

And I also didn't need a cat hand to tell me that Manuk with the Giants in the Snow is supposed to be Jotunheim, home of the frost giants.
Splendit is more complicated, because it's basicly known that the fairys just come from the "otherworld" - may need some research here. Alfheim is a good connection to it though, even though there's a different between fairys and elves, it's close enough for Gravity to take them in one bucket and also explaines the missing elves/fairys in Geffenia, which is supposed to be Alfheim.

The coincidence of the Biolabs Monsters and Job Cls Npc's is different though. Except for Margaretha who's clearly reffered to in the Redemtion Quest and maybe Egnigem from the Seal 2 Quest, these are just the names and hairstyles Grav gave to this classes - this is also the reason why every one of the Biolab Monsters has the ingame version of the official Artwork Hairstyle -_- Mostly though, these hints were put in after Biolabs - and name coincidence is just a recycling of names.
Regarding the missing King and the Dolls - these are simple quest knowledge though.

So...story should exist outside of quest knowledge?

My only point is that ro does have a story, a very complicated and intricate one. I'm not saying it's 100% consistent with norse mythology either, just that it has internal consistency.

Comparing ro as it is now and the manwha is far fetched though, especially geffenia. That was made when the game didn't even care about the manwha. It's a chance that we're slowly getting back to it...although I guess, with the big gapping hole in the middle, elves could've had a gap like the one morroc made, that would explain them being in the new world, while keeping internal consistency AND keeping up with the manwha...kinda... Anywayz, we're moving away from the subject here~

The manwha was written before and especially with recent updates (Renewal for example get's very close character classes wise) they go near to the manwha again.
Geffenia was one of this - it's opened on the same way as in the manwha and it's build up the same way as in the manwha, it even includes the orb of... whatever the sage was called, to lazy to look for the name right now XD

And no, most of the knowledge I wrote was basic knowledge from the ingame Quest and NPCs combined with the north myth roots.
Freya isn't evil, just some of their followers are. The other part of their followers are prooving she's a caring and loving goddess. Also the dwarfs who made her Brisingamen in return to some... special... favors... *cough* don't talk bad of her and praise her as a lovely godess.
The background Story of RO2 may fit for RO2 - but it doesn't fit to RO1 at all - so it's basically like a parralel dimension or another version of the story. This isn't even uncommen in Asia, especially Japan (and we all know that jRO works very closely with kRO). Take the Story of "Revolutionary Girl Utena" for example. The story is told in Manga, Anime and Movie - and all three are completly different from each other and only share Characters and some points, even the characteristics from the Characters are completly changed in all three versions. Sailor Moon is also much different from Manga to Anime, yet even Live Action Series.
And it's fine this way ^^
But the RO2 Story just isn't compatible with what we have in RO1 right now :Emo_18:

I agree with this post almost completely. For me, playing RO is a way to relax, detach from irl for short periods of time, and have FUN.

The only problem for me however, is that Renewal has killed the fun in PvM for me (there is no longer any challenge imo) and so I now just log in on Saturdays for WoE (even though it's ridiculous and OP with 3rd class skills, it is still entertaining). Also, most of the people I've met over the years that I've considered to be friends have quit, and there isn't a lot of incentive for me to meet new people since I am so disinterested in PvM and am already max level.

To be honest, the only thing keeping me around is the fact that I just love RPGs, WoE is still enjoyable for me, my work on the stat calculator (which desperately needs more updates I know :Emo_18: ), and my continuing, yet foolish, hope that some future update will bring back the magic for me that I found when I started almost 8 years ago. Plus I haven't bought WPE for close to 6 months so it's very budget friendly.

Yeah, like I find that myself also. Having all the gears I need plus there is no soul in pvp = Ragnarok: a waste of time.
I won't hang out with friends either and read how bad their day was.

@ Refering to my post.. Freya slept with a group of dwarves to get Brisingamen.
Dwarves are the best smiths in Norse Myth.
Freya is the patron Goddess of Sweden. That's why I like Swedish girls.. If you are one please PM me and lets hang out together. <3
