When moving from the novice area to the town where you go to be an acolyte, I got a very long string of "Can't find sprite" error messages followed by a forced shutdown that carried this info:

Somehow, the client hasn't been patched correctly (that's what the sprite errors point to).
What happens when you start RO?
Does the patcher say 'patch process completed' and show a news update, or does it pause for a bit, with nothing in announcements screen?
If it says patch process completed - It thinks it's applied the patches, but the data files aren't patched. Did you do something like installing it in program files, trying to patch (and finding out that it didn't work well there) and then moved the folder to where it is now? I can think of situations in which that could produce bizzare results like this, if you're using win7/vista (thanks to UAC).
Uninstall RO, and reinstall it to the desired location (where you had it should work).
If the patcher doesn't show announcements, doesn't try to patch, and so on, the patcher is unable to get the list of files to patch, which implies that either the patcher is blocked from internet access (check firewall settings), or internet explorer is broken. Open IE (has to be IE) and see if you can go to the RO website - If that doesn't work, that is your problem; you need to fix IE in order for RO (and most other MMOs that auto-patch) to patch successfully. The most common problem is that IE gets set to use a proxy when it shouldn't (I'm still confused as to how this happens, but a number of people have reported that).
Also: Tech support issue moved to tech support.
