I think you have to edit the client to do that.. There is no option in game to do it.

Nope, it wouldn't fix lag, the lag isn't from rendering the numbers. The lag you sometimes see when a whole bunch of damage goes off is either network lag (from the pile of packets sent to tell you about all the damage - IIRC, RO isn't economical about how many packets it sends in cases like that), or if it's local machine lag, it's from rendering all the damage animations that you can't see because they're hidden under the numbers. Try turning effects off ( /effect ) - if it's local lag, that will help significantly.

As a jaded veteran, it seems crazy to want to hide the thing that matters (the numbers) to be hidden - I guess I never cared what the graphics looked like, though.

lag isnt so much the issue its visibility
with billions of numbers flying all over the place its hard to tell if for example theres a mob on the healer or if certain loot has fallen

some people like seeing their numbers on the screen.. but there comes a point where if you cast a spell you already know how much damage its going to do..

for certain TI's visibility is key.. Especially when you don't realize Beelzebub sneaked into the mob your attacking.. and can't hear him from the sound of attacks or see him from the spray of numbers, untill its too late and you see your whole group drop down to 5% and 2 others die..
