"Paladin~Royal Guard from Basics; New Player>Average>End game, I don't intend to give exact builds but only ideas regarding skills/stats, I prefer seeing ppl having a variety of their RG's builds uniqueness and take this guide only as basis on how RG class being played, geared, comparing/builds discussions & effectiveness/real meta -not in very misleading ways; specifically in the WOE scenario as team player (real main roles: Devo & to Ground Control w/Exceed Break), not a random solo-er running here and there, being useless w/o Sac, not contributing any into guild play and get rejected by good guilds (Sacrifice/Devotion is a must skill to keep squishy AOE/DPS classes/guildmates alive; Rangers/WLs/Suras. ^ I'm going to explain this as simple as possible; Playing as Devotion (Sacrifice) means you have to keep up your sac-targets alive all the time, never try sac-ing more than 2 ppl and if both of them are using 2-H and w/o shield you will surely take more dmg (this applies in trans or 3rd job woes) due to the fixed cast time of this skill (insta-cast is unachievable) and unlike in classic RO > Defending Aura cancels when you re-cast Sac, so you also have to re-cast DA. If your Sacrifice cast fails or interrupted, your character will go at animation-cancel like stance (stops your movements too), whenever this happens, you just need to cast "First Aid" to refresh your character (this also helps you control your movements to avoid mis-clicking position in WOE but for RG [since you can't use FA, just refresh it by Endure or Guard], to ease your "chasing sac-targets" hotkey Bash then cast the skill in your Party Window to your sac-target you want to follow, this will help you to efficiently keep up while pushing/moving with your targets instead using mouse clicks at cells while spamming Sac.

FAQs:
Q1: Battle RG? PVP? WOE? Exceed Break?
A1: That is my recent/main build:

Crit-Exceed Break (for melee/ground control) and my other build FS/GD-Lex (for range meta-base)
 

Q2: Why every RG wants a Tao Gunka Card?
A2: For massive HP, but then I'd suggest a Marc Card as the best/cheap alternative. A pure VIT RG can possibly reach 100k+ HP w/o High Risk Armor w/full and proper buffs/gears. Stacking for HP means you wana be more effective as support using Sacrifice.
 

Q3: Reflect Damage leveling/auto-cast builds still effective?
A3: Nope, since kRO nerfed this skill I won't recommend it but only get it for opening other skills/pre-reqs.

 

Before reading further, please be informed that all these are based from playing my RG for nearly 6 years and experiences from iRO (Official International Ragnarok Online) which is currently on our Post-Balance skills update patch just for the sake of other ppl who may mislead this guide for whatever server/version they are playing RO. General PVM/MVP Build: Main Skills [Inspiration/Vanishing Point/Overbrand/Shield Spell 1] <OB needs maxed Spear Quicken+Mastery+Peco+Cavalier Skills>:
Vanishing Point/Single Target DPS PVM/MVP or the "Spear Master's" Build:

-Shield spell 1 gives you attack boost by chance.
-Can solo-kill on Vanishing Point on 188+ ASPD when fully buffed: Valk (Dispells+Earthquake consumes alot of pots/Kafra cards if you're really going 1v1 it. The hardest so far that I tried. /swt), Detardeus, Kiel, Thanatos, Nyd Shadow, Baphomet -not the sealed one, Hatii, Ktullanux (havent tried Ifrit, Fallen Bishop) and other low~mid tier MVPs.
-You need 188~19x ASPD to spam Vanishing Point efficiently.*

PVP Builds: Main Skills [Inspiration/Banding/Vanishing Point/Overbrand/Shield Spell 1] <same build as PVM/MVP, since we will only change gears for PVP>

Works mostly only in PVP than WOE (since cast time is interruptible in WOE physics), the uniqueness of this build varies since you need ATK+MATK to deal dmg (like Grand Cross), either you go higher STR over INT, INT over STR or getting both STR & INT balanced w/other stats (lesser AGI & LUK).

Banding+Genesis Ray:

Banding requires other RGs on Banding Status in party and should be close to each other to spam Genesis Ray, while under Banding duration (sharing HP by average, boosts atk & DEF).

Inspiration+Genesis Ray:

Since not all RGs gets Banding and ppl who mostly prefer solo, Inspiration debuffs the caster but greatly increases accuracy, stats, atk & max HP (Costs 1% of exp every cast, consumes HP & SP over time, part of your dmg will reflect back to you and deactivates when SP reaches 0, cooldown 5 mins)

WOE Build "Banding" Full-Support Royal Guard:
Royal Guard's New Skill "King's Grace":
My comments:

-Simulated w/my FS RG, since the skill has minute long cooldown, cures status ailments but immobilizes yourself (if used outside PVM).
-Updated full demi reductions FS RG gears, I'd prefer wearing the WOE suit now vs plate [more reductions over more HP] w/+9 KVM Holy Avenger and switch w/Combat Knife for more reductions. Switching also DEX Temporal Boots for pulling fast Sacrifice and switch back on WOE Boots.
FAQ:
Q: You have Defending Aura, why use WoE Suits?
A: This is when you try to run/rush ninja cast Stasis w/Sac-ed Warlock vs a Precast stack (w/GTB shield) since DA will give you super slow movement speed penalty. Note also that as Ranger's No Limits+Arrow Storm became devastating since this update, you will want to stack range/demi reductions gears as possible.

 

*PS: Overawe status from Banding slows down ppl around you.

Best way to play WOE RG = Support, not recommending Battle builds specially if you're facing vs good guilds and frontline yourself, take instant Dispells, Manhole, Masquerades, etc. Not to mention, this setup is way cheaper than the expensive battle based RG.

Tank & Support Builds: Main Skills [Battle Chant/Sacrifice/Gloria Domini/Prestige/Banding/Vanguard Force/Shield Spell 3]
In-Depth Build Description:

War of Emperium Tactics/Tips:
-King' Grace removes status ailments, so as your Sacrifice (if you have casted it already to your Sac targets), and blocks dmg/immunity.

-Take target priority/proper ground control w/Exceed Break. I've seen alot of this in iRO RGs, randomly killing bypassers or portal-camping trying to solo-PK pointlessly, EB is a great skill for WOE, not for PVP-roaming.
-Sacrifice and Gloria Domini Lex-ing using +9 KVM Holy Avenger w/Secrament+Magic Strings to get fast cast times/spams.
-Stuffs you should be mostly needing/hotkey-ing: STR/VIT/AGI +20 Foods/Holy Waters/Panaces/Green Potions/Berserk Potions/Enrich Celermine Juices/Vitatas/Large HP/SP Increase Potions/Speed Potions/Guarana Candy/Yggdrasil Berries/Seeds/Green Ales/Slim Potions/Blue Potions.

-Inspiration Skill eats 1% of your EXP so try to use it wisely, and knowing to use it to counter such effects like Strip/Divest/Masquerades/Cold/Crystallization, why this is skill is very situational but Godly if properly used.
-FCP is your friend against strippers and equipment breaking, though Masquerade by passes these effect unless you are in Inspiration duration, so watch yourself against Shadow Chasers.
-Earth Drive/Magnum Break cancels Thorn Walls. ED also best eraser for Manholes/Extreme Vaccums/Magnetic Earth/Pneuma/Volcanic Ashes/Classical Pluck teams/other ground affecting skills.
-Buffing takes patience, watching your buffs icons and your remaining SP specially versus Dispellers/Pile Bunker/SP-sucking skills and recasting; why I always keep & watch myself with my Guard/Reflect Damage/Defending Aura/Piety/etc.
-Timely using your Defending Aura. Most RGs would hate this skill because of the slow-ass walking but believe me, Guard and Def Aura are the best skills for tanking, (unless til you get dispelled of course).
-Using Provoke to cancel Urgent Recallers, Stasis, etc.
-You can't tank everything at 100%, try to look around, plan your moves and don't waste your pots/supplies trying to survive a bunch of ppl pointlessly in your screen or just use Bwing at super intense situations.
-Flashing Battle Chant after-recalls or casting it on pre-cast lines before enemy rushes.
-Removing Masquerade debuffs by Battle Chant. Never mess w/Shadow Chasers or try to 1v1 them.

"Ground Control Exceed Break" Build for WOE:

*I am only recommending this build for advance players and ppl who can spend zeny for gears/useables or have access w/God Items under their respective guilds (but this doesn't mean you need billions to play this build, that is exaggeration). Personally, I'd prefer lending a Meg too to Suras because they can kill faster and more mobile than RG.

My RG has only Tao (and that is for you and your Sac to live longer w/high HP) and can be replaced by the new Hero Plate [1] w/Unfro or something else:

Exceed Break only as for "Ground Control" not for random frontline/random soloing away from your guild or leave your Sac targets and prior speed potting chase random ppl w/o target priorities and become useless in GvG/no contribution to teamplay. If you want to be useful with your EB; don't play it in a misleading way, WOE is not PVP/PK showcase.

*Getting 100+ Crit rate is a must.
 
Mid/High-Tier Equipment (The ones I'm currently using and possible alternatives):
+9 WOE Plate/Suit [1] = Marc/Ghostring/Tao Gunka or Brynhild

Sarah w/Fatal enchants (more crit dmg+rate, the better), I was using also the old RWC 2012 Rings [1] w/STR & Fighting Spirit Chants = Smokie/Mantis/Kafra Blossom or Megingjard = Not really recommending this for RGs, this God acc is better if used/lend to Suras, because this class has better dmg output/best class for Megs. In my experience, Mjolnir is enough for EB RG.

+23 Physical Set [Weapon+Earring+Pendant] ex: +7 Weapon/+8 Earring/+8 Pendant = 23 for the ATK bonus

Items that boost ATK and CRIT: Takoyaki, Distilled Fighting Spirit,  Buche De Noel, Arunafeltz Desert Sandwich, etc.
 
*Note that you will frequently need buffs too from other classes; Secra (faster EB Cast)/Strings/Bless/Agi/Gloria/Striking and so on. Avoid Dispel as possible as you can.

STR 90~

LUK 120 for LUK Temporal Boots bonus
INT 50~ (Remember that INT also gives half of what DEX does for reducing cast times)

woah, that's nice ones. but overly cost skills like inspi and GR, can you really kill many enemy within 90 secs while you're at risk of dying?

That's why it's also called a situational skill. /no1 Planning ahead and proper strategy before hand always works, anything is possible within 90 secs, then dying would not be an option. :mellow:

Inspiration takes 1% Base EXP = 999,999 EXP and keep in mind to always conserve it. ;)

Hey there. Can you please tell me a good fast leveling build? Stats and Skills. I believe I'm pretty much good with gears but not sure which weapon to use

Crusaders/Paladins mostly level fast using AGI-Spear Quicken or mobbing w/Grand Cross (1-Handed Swords)

Elemental Lances/Pikes are basic for Spear builds, then when you go job change to RG, get Overbrand Lv 5 sooner (some good weapons maybe Brocca/Pole Axe) and mob>aoe kill>fly wing method still works. But since theres Gramps Eden TIs, itll be faster. /no1

you can get two-hand spear+holy cross. pretty much easy leveling at GH when you reach 90++. equipping 2hand spear will make holy cross' damage doubled.

Yea gotta prepare lots of BBs and borrow someone's RoFL+RoR, til then Imma re-make that pre-patch RG vs MVPs, gona take some time though /gawi

And yea heres the old Pre-Patch MVP Inspiration RG that Imma remake to Post-Patch...



I don't even understand what is going on. Does that exp consuming skill still take away exp when you're max level?

Even 150/50 you need EXP to use Inspiration, EXP you gain wont show in-game status window but in character select screen:

does it take away 1% of your 9999999999? Or a different number? I'd really like to understand this skill if I'm going to build my guy to MVP like that. You looked pretty near invincible. Did you have help from a party? (I couldn't see through the damage spam)

Are these builds still applicable? What do you think about the lack of inspiration?

It depends how you play with your guild and your own style, either builds are good. Lacking Inspiration, you need EXP for it and the time it takes to farm it makes some ppl get rid of it but yea still depends to your build, with or without. /no1

looked it up. it uses 1 mil exp at level 150, and you had 100 mil exp (rounded up by adding 1). is 100 mil max, or is that just the max it will display? (eg: could you have 200 mil exp, but have it show 100 mil anyway, but only up until the point that you use more than 100 mil exp, meaning if you use 102 mil it will switch from displaying 100 mil to displaying 98 mil, because you really had 200 mil and now have 98 mil)?

If you wana tank better nyd garb is better but if you wana semi-kill stuffs with quick reflecting+alice shield then a valk mant its still effective, being a RG player for long time, I don't stick in 1 set or default gears, I switch alot depends on what role I'll be doing; tanking/killing/reflecting/leveling /no1

^ I was on my PVP gears since this wasnt expected when I hopped in South Field so (KVM spear, Cranial Sacred Mission, Ifrit Mask, Variants, KVM suit & rings & Hockey Mask), but what really made this possible was my Inspiration & Reflect Damage Skill when they were OP before nerfs. /no1

oh i see thanks. never thought that RG is this versatile makes me wanna make one :rice: but I still need to gather more infos about RG's skill/stat build. I wanna try that reflect leveling.

Brocca and Imperial Set are still useful if you dont have KVM spears/lance /no1

I got max Lv 3 and for two purposes; Lv 1 for ATK bonuses when I'm in offense mode w/Inspiration mode then Lv 3 for DEF bonuses for defense/tank mode w/Prestige. /ok
