Hello all,
just out of curiosity,
I have came by an Forum wich may not be named here and saw that they got an HUGE Forum for selfmade Ragnarok Online Maps.
As I took a look at some of their topics I was just amazed how lovely, awesome and detailed some of the maps were, almost as good as the official ones by Gavity.
Now what came to my mind was. IS IT LEGAL TO CREATE YOUR OWN MAPS???
We all now that those ,,Custom Maps" will never ever see the light of an Official Server and will likely be used by bad bad servers, but still.
Could I be sued for or get into trouble for creating my own map and offer it (FOR FREE) to the puplic and even let them download it?
If it is legal to create them, can they be send to Gravity as a proposal to use them for any events xD?
Like I said, I am asking just out of curiosity and I do not plan to make my own maps or sell them or release any - cause I dont make them xD
Can Gravity sue me or get me into trouble for creating my own Ragnarok Online Custom Maps?
Thank you for your answers <3

I hope this Topic does not break any rules!

They can't even manage their own server, let alone track down everyone that makes a better one for people to play on. I highly doubt you have anything to worry about, but if you are not going to play on the map you made, I don't see the point in investing the time and effort making it. Making maps/monsters/new classes/items takes a -_-load of time, and you probably need eathena to be able to test it anyway.

Nothing is illegal as long as you are not caught.

As everyone else says, even if it is, they don't care, and even if they did, would never do anything about it. It's gravity we're talking about. If they were to sue someone, it would take at least a decade for them to even bring the case to court.
Just don't modify the playing client and don't introduce it as competition to their own game, I think, are legally the big things. Otherwise, it falls under the same sort of thing as sprite editing imo.
