I went to the Gamefaqs site and the RO board was dead... and by dead I mean, the last topic made was weeks ago. And locked. How alive is the game? I'm thinking about returning, and as the server I was on is gone, Ymir. Also, I know there were bots (ALOT of bots, come to think about it) when I played, how are they now?

Ah, one last thing, what's in demand as a class? I've done everything, so I know the basics of the classes. Mind you, it was back before Warp Portal and all this nonsense about 2-2 and trans.. Back in my day we had three classes and we liked it! On our coal powered computers!

Nobody really goes to gamefaqs for Ragnarok Online info. We have these forum and the irowiki forums as the official ones.

Well, that's a good sign, but how's the population? And how is the botting issue?

The population seems up and down to me. Some days there's plenty of people, some days there isn't. There's usually about 2-3000 on Valkyrie, and about 5-700 hundred on the other two servers. Personally, I think those are very comfortable numbers. It's hard to tell what those numbers really mean because of shops, and the numbers took a huge dip because the GMs cracked down on bots.

You'll still see botting every now and then, but large waves of bots have been dealt with for the most part. Single maps aren't completely overrun with bots anymore. Spam bots are pretty much completely gone (new filtering system). You'll still catch someone using a single-character bot every now and then, but the big waves are generally easy for the GMs to nuke.

My advice: go for Ymir, if only because your old chars should be available with a Warp Portal helpdesk ticket, as long as you still know what email address your original account was associated with; you may even still have your zeny, gear, and Kafra items. Also, few bots on Ymir. Population is low compared to Valkyrie, but my guess is that the number of actual players on Valk is close to the same as Ymir. A significant proportion of the Valk population are bots. Ygg if you don't mind a few bots and you want a server that's "cozy." If you're a dedicated WoE'er, Ygg might be best for you due to their lower population, since you should have a better chance of getting into an effective WoE guild there. Since I don't play Ygg (much,) someone from that server would probably be able to give you a better idea.

I left before WoE. I think I'll give it a try. Ygg? Why not Ymir, if it's got fewer bots and equal people?

Oh, and what class is good for WoE for a PvP newbie?

Suras are pretty solid characters (to the point where they're considered OP in most cases).
Rune Knights, Royal Guards, and Guillotine Crosses also tend to do well.

Thanks, though I still don't get why Ygg is seen as better then Ymir.
I'll start up, though.

Ymir requires a one time subscription fee. Or rather, you need to have a VIP subscription to create characters. After your VIP subscription runs out, you can keep playing the characters, but won't be able to create new ones.

Yeah, but I plan to be a VIP member anyway - I played when a subscription was required. I LIKE RO. I just left due to guild drama.

Well, thanks for all the help. I'll start with a Swordsman on Ymir. I won't be WoEing til I'm high level and geared anyway.

RO has changed quite a bit from the old days. I'd suggest if you're just starting fresh, take and use those Eden Quests. You can sign up in the Eden Group main desk. After certain levels, they'll give you equipment quests. While they aren't the greatest, they definitely help more than a Cotton Shirt and Knife.

Feel free to poke me for any other questions/help if you'll be on Ymir, then! I'm usually on my Sura, Mowi, sitting at the bottom left couches in Eden, in the mornings and late nights.

Take it from me, I also came back recently. Its a lot better than people are making it out too be. Its a bit of an adjustment, for one back when I played a 95 champ(which was my main), I was a threat. The gears I had were great and people thought that champs were scary. Now if you see a champ running around in woe you laugh at them. Gears are more class oriented too.

Leveling is a huge change where all of a sudden a huge mob of weak monsters is far better for leveling than fighting the strongest monsters you can handle one at a time. Plus the monsters, back then stapos and magmarings were just upgraded porings there for livening up the place, no one took them seriously. Now they are leveling targets, desert wolves are hard to kill for anyone under 80 and its all around easier to get to that 99 tranz. Yet it is still hard as hell to get too 150.

The population is a little lower than before but not noticeably different, the woes are big and thanks to these TIs you can find a party a lot easier than before.

Eden group is fantastic especially for VIPs, huge groups of people, access to most cities, vending is popular, tons of quests, its great. I wish it existed back before renewal I think a lot more people would still be playing if it did.

There are the bads too, botting is a problem for ygg and valk, there is less of a challenge, ect. But not to the extent I've heard. It is different but when you get down to it and adjust it still feels and works exactly like old ro.
