Leveling by doing quests

Some say that even if you receive lots of exp (say 500k) and you only need a little bit to level (say 10k), you will only go up by 2 ~ 3 levels.
I'd just like to know; is it 2 levels, 3 levels or another number?

It takes more to level every time. So when the quest is turned in it has to fulfill the values for each level you go up.

That would mean you could go up by 20 levels, so long as the exp requirement for the next level is filled, which, I heard, it doesn't work like that.http://irowiki.org/wiki/Base_EXP_Chart

Sorry, I don't get it.It depends, you can only get 1 level per "chunk" of exp, so you need to be careful about wasting some of the exp reward. How many "chunks" of exp each quest gives varies - some give it all at once, some, like the recent Lunar New Years quest, gave the exp in multiple chunks so that you could gain multiple levels. On the other hand, if you save a turn-in until you're a level 1 high novice, you're only going to get 1 base and 1 job level per monster.
also, what's this "chunk" of exp you're talking about?

also, what's this "chunk" of exp you're talking about?
For example, when you get Gramps' reward for a turn-in monster, you'll see:
You gain X base EXP.
You gain Y job EXP.
Since all the reward EXP was delivered at the same time, you can gain only one level.
On the other hand, the reward for the Lunar Event looked something like this:
You gain Z base EXP.
You gain Z base EXP.
You gain Z base EXP.
You gain Z base EXP.
You gain Z base EXP.
So you could have potentially gotten 5 base levels from that one quest.
