I think the Dev's are heading in the right direction to try to get players to not bypass much of the maps and the game play. However, I also played a noob along with Naughty and found that the quests were over in the blink of an eye. Perhaps the Dev's need to load up the old Irose on a separate server and play up some noobs on that game, to get a feel for how the game SHOULD love you good long time, rather than players speed rushing through the first 20 levels. While the progression might put players through a "logical" movement through the lower maps, they level up still very quickly and like Naughty pointed out, by the time we got to the breezy hills, the monsters were all green and blue. Again, the leveling is still quite fast. I know some people complain that getting to level 200 in a week or two is way too slow but I think they are Wrong and spoiled with too much instant gratification mentality. It's no wonder players burn out and disappear and don't hang around. The Triggersoft developers had it about right in terms of game mechanics, maps, difficulty and leveling speed. Yes, it took a couple months to get to 100 but the journey was very fun. That is the "trick" to it. Again, the dev's need to load up Irose on a server in the office and actually play it to see how they got it right and why people still consider it the "gold standard"

Thanks very much for the feedback :)

This is definitely the kind of thing we need to hear.

I am a bit curious though, are you both premium and were you using any item mall exp enhancers along the way? What level were you when you arrived in Zant and what level were you when you left Breezy Hills for El Verloon?

Did you guys enjoy playing together or do you feel there weren't enough mobs to go around?

Finally - About how long altogether did both maps take?

With all the new quests coming out, I plan to open up a special feedback thread in the Proposals and Suggestions forum where I plan (hope) to be actively engaged in receiving/requesting feedback.

Will there be more progression-based quests? The short answer is yes. We are not exactly trying to "speed through" the whole leveling process, but we want people to get to Junon in a relatively smooth, guided fashion. Imagine a new player just coming in to the world of ROSE. Adventure plains has a few people hanging out, Zant is OK... but the game really picks up once you hit the big city and see all those shiny player vend shops ^_^

i just did this this morning, solo from start to zant it took me 17 levels ,no premium and no xp things, doing most of the quests (i skipped the jelly king and killing the bees)
over all the only things i didnt like was the quest for the ores i think say that you need to kill red pomics and i have to kill the recruiter ones or something, and its still pretty slow moving without enhancements but thats liveable.

Naughty and I played bow hawkers from level 1 on up to Zant doing all of the noob quest. Neither of us were on Premium accounts and we did not use any exp medals etc. We did have each a yellow uniform with a G7, that is the only enhancement our characters had on. Other than the yellow uniform with gem, the rest of our gear was stock level appropriate unrefined gear (toy bow thru orc bow) etc. We had cleric buffs from one of our long time clerics.

Did you guys enjoy playing together or do you feel there weren't enough mobs to go around?

There seemed to be plenty of monster to hunt on, and it took a couple of hours to get thru breezy hills, when I noticed the pomics were green and blue and we were around level 21. The part that took us the longest was the pomic quest for the Iron Ore quest rewards and it took what seemed like a very long time to collect those. That was the only quest which didn't go insanely fast, but rather was quite the opposite. Naughty reported in the bug section that it seems the red pomics were not actually giving the iron ore reward, but another pomic seemed to be giving it.

Nope, no Premium.
I didn't use item mall exp enhancers along the way.
We left Breezy Hills as soon as the snails turned blue.
When we arrived at El verloon, the Rackies were green. I recall running right on past them and heading on down to the lake, were the Turtles were yellow.

Similar to my experience on entering Breezy Hills...I just thought what a waste of map space.
I would rather enjoy exploring these maps more, but the time it takes to out level them is done so quickly, i think too quickly.
Really, this is not how i remember the game when i orginally started back in 2006. As the way it is right now, there really isn't a need for Breezy Hills to even be there, which to me is a real shame.

"Do you guys enjoy playing together?" Im sure Coffee will say its better than the garden shed :P Joking aside, there were ample Monsters to kill, well thats not counting that in Luxem Tower there was an uber high level targeting Monsters that i needed to kill for the daft Ore Quest. I already said my thoughts on that particular Quest, in the Bug Report section. Something seriously is not right with that Quest.
I think we would have been done in Luxem Tower area alot quicker, if it was not for that Quests shenanighans.

The ranged Snail leaders, i would have liked a few more of. Coffee had 3 up where he was, where i only had 1.
While i can understand you want to progress Players to the hustle and bustle of Junon in a relatively smooth, guided fashion.
I find it sad that some of the areas this game has, are not being fully utilized. I didn't need to kill a single Monster
on the outside Zant, or to do a Quest there...Breezy Hills Pomics were no longer any good when i got there...
I didn't even need to visit the Breezy Hills village.

I'm actually a bit curious about this last part.

There is definitely a quest to kill the woopies and hornets outside of Zant and in Breezy hills, there should have been quests that sent you into the heart of the village to visit Belz. If any quests were missed, I need to do a better job of making everyone know where they are and when they are available :)

I will definitely fix the drops for the ore quest (thought I didn't actually develop the Luxem Tower stuff, I just connected the last quest in that chain to the first quest in the Zant chain).

This conversation can now be continued in my new dedicated feedback thread - check it out y'all :)

Calanor,

It's really good to see that you guys are working on adding quests and providing new players a good storyline while leveling. I have a few questions regarding these actually:

  • Will the developers keep doing this until every map in the game has a key function in keeping new players attracted to the game and guiding them through the procces of hitting the end-level?
  • How long are you expecting for this to take, taking into consideration that the team is expanding.
  • Will grinding eventually become impossible due to taking down the exp from hunting monsters and redirect the exp into quests? I'd love to see this,

All good questions

1. The goal is to wrap up in April, enough Quest content to get players into Junon, explore Junon and then use Junon NPC's as a platform to offer quests for a variety of levels (Genesis is working on Daily Quests that will help facilitate this as well). The current player progression focus was to get new players into Junon, get them familiar with the NPC's. Much beyond that isn't going to be as formulated as the current quests flow, but more quests is the major plan.

2. Getting to Junon, and adding some quests that take players beyond Junon is included in this, and we will probably see by the end of April enough to hopefully get players into Luna (with the luna quests already available it will be the meeting of those two areas and get us to focus on more story line quests, which will be Post April and probably be a rather long project to really cover the other 120 levels that would be left.)

3. Grinding in theory will still be there, but grinding through quests would be more of an option, rather than monster killing for sole point of exp.
