How much does painkiller actually reduce? Has it been tested?

It reduces about 8xx damage from melee attacks.

So as long as the MVP and it's mob aren't doing more than 800 damage per hit to you (most MVP's do less than that with decent gear) all their damage will be reduced to 1 except for skills.

Dieter, definitely Dieter! Granitic Armor reduces damage from skills too, just tell me one mvp who doesn't do any skills lol.
Also Pyroclastic is awesome.

Pain Killer also reduces skill damage, it makes wonders against MVP's mob damage and "multi-hit" skills like bolts, but not much against 1 hit +40k damage skills.
