Ok, I been at it several times, and its WAY to difficult. You have a trial of 20, you need to hit 15, and you have 8 targets that exist for 3 seconds till the next trial. Thats the 1st test to be a ranger. You need to identify the 'Poring' out of the 8 before they explode. You have to do it 20times in a row, and only miss 5, I can only do about 8. Its to darn difficult.

its also stupid if you mess up on any of the 3 trials you have to start over the WHOLE THING.

Seconding this.

Make the porings last more then 3 seconds, absolutely stupid how needlessly hard it is right now.

I can't give any more suggestions for the other two parts, as I gave up after dying on the second trial twice due to lag.

yeh the quest was pretty annoying. I think I did it maybe 8 times before finally passing it. Most of it was spent doing the first half :\

it took me 5 hours just to pass the ranger exam. If i did pass the first. the second one gets me because the plant monsters stop me from getting away from the bomb-ring. the third one feels like using a dessert puppy merc is the easiest one.

There's actually a pattern to the Porings. The one to the direct north of you will the be hint as to where the Poring actually is.

We had problems with the Ranger quest too, until we turned /snap on, helps get the name of the monster sooner.

The 3rd class jobs are designed to take ~ 3 hours to complete the change quest. Some of them are due to them having hard skill requirements, others have distances, or delay timers. It is supposed to be your epic journey to break out beyond what is possible for even heroic mortals, it should be memorable.

Well at least you guys didn't have to try to do it in an unknown language. XD

Btw, there are 8 specific name patterns so after a while you'll recognize them. Dunno if iRO kept the patterns though. I'll have to check later. But yeah the First test is so much harder than the other 2. The 2nd one is easy you just need to keep to the walls and spend your Bombrings before talking to the girl.

I have to agree - this test is WAY too hard. :| I haven't even been able to make it past the first part! The best I've been able to do is 11...

It wouldn't be so bad if, say, you had to pick the pink poring out of the green, or if there were only 3 to look through, or even if you had more time! Half the time I end up finding the right one only to run out of time (so my kill doesn't count), or I don't do enough damage to kill it in one hit (which again won't count if I run out of time).

And now you guys are telling me if I DO manage to pass and then fail on the next one I have to start over?! D: What the hell! I don't mind a little difficulty, but how can I learn from my mistakes if I'm forced to do the random game first? :< Who came up with this? Fire him. NOW.

I've been trying for at least an hour now, and I know some of you more dedicated players may have been trying for much longer... but man. I can't help but sit here and think "@$%# this. This isn't fun."

I'll try again later... maybe. It hardly seems worth the trouble since the character I'm using will just get wiped after the testing anyway! My real character on Ymir will be the one to have to do it, and I can't bear thinking about having to do this again. >_>

So anyway, what I mean to say is that I hope the test is changed in some way to make it easier between now and then. :< At LEAST change the part where you have to do them all in a row! T_T

I've actually tried using snap. It does help a little bit, but not much. 3-5 seconds to find one monster name out of a group of 8 + lag + not always dieing on the first hit? NOTHING helps. :|

Oh, and I noticed this right away when I started playing, and it HAS been awhile since I've played RO, but has the cursor always been so slow? O_o

/Snap doesn't really help that much, try always having DS ready, and look for patterns. Still haven't had much luck with the second part, as I just can't get enough practice with it.

Really though... change it to 5 seconds per-poring group, that will still be somewhat of a challenge. I don't care about it being a "epic journey" or whatever. It's just not fun the way it is right now.

There's actually a pattern to the Porings. The one to the direct north of you will the be hint as to where the Poring actually is.

Actually, the arrangement of the porings is randomly chosen between 1 of 8 configurations.

For example, if you use the poring in the lower right corner:
Marin -> Poring is mid left
Puding -> Poring is bottom middle
Pororing -> Poring is top right (or was it middle?)
Horing -> Poring is bottom left

You might have to go through a few times to get the hang of the pattern, but it's not too hard (took me about 15 times through to realize it, twice to perfect it). You might also want to use F11 to close all of the windows, and move the chat bar away from the edge so that it is out of your way.

It is a little silly that you have to completely restart if the plants kill you. You almost don't even need the bombs to get through the plants. The large roots can be used as barriers to protect you against their attacks. The bombs themselves sometimes drop straight where you release them, and sometimes follow you around for a few seconds.

There is no way to fail using the Desert Wolf Baby merc to kill the eggs, unless you just completely misunderstand the incomprehensible instructions. I was already familiar with mercs, so it's just using the wolf to kill eggs. Just try to get the best view of the map you can, before you use the flute to summon the wolf.

Over a dozen attempts later and I can't take anymore. :| The more I tried, the louder I ended up screaming at my screen! How on earth have people gotten past the first part?! I managed 12 during my best attempt, but my average seems to be 8. I simply cannot do any better, and I know that even if I do manage to finish it I'm only going to die on the next part anyway. To put it bluntly: the test is stupid. It isn't fun, it isn't fair, and I'm 100% sure I won't feel like some legendary hero upon completing. Certainly not on a test server!

I do realize that being a test server it's necessary to test the job quest. Fine. I've tested it. IT'S TOO HARD. It seems some people managed to do it based on what's been posted here and there, and SUPPOSEDLY there's a pattern (though how on earth you people are reading patterns in 5 second intervals is beyond my comprehension, so kudos to you?), but as for me I find it impossible and frustrating. If you want to make people feel like they're doing something great and important then make them do something great and important! At the very least make the trials more digestible! (As I suggested before, having to shoot the odd-colored poring would be much more fun and still somewhat challenging).

Whatever you do, please do SOMETHING! This is just ridiculous! I'm done for today. Someone told me there'll be an NPC tomorrow that will automatically change jobs so I'll just wait til then.

Assuming your cursor is aways on the island north of you with your camera facing north... (Don't change the view, zoom out as far as possible, and yeah, close all other windows including the shortcut bar.) Huge spoiler ahead, only read if you absolutely can't figure it out.

Spoiler

The bombs themselves sometimes drop straight where you release them, and sometimes follow you around for a few seconds.

They will follow you until the self destruct timer starts, then they stay in that one cell. I would suggest casting Wind Walker first if you're a Sniper during the time they were giving you the instruction, then just try to walk as far away as possible from the bomb once it starts. Or you can walk all the way over to the NPC first, go back to the spot with the Flora and plant bombs there.

Thanks so much Miyuki! I was finally able to pass it and move on. I died just like I predicted when I made it to the second part the first time, but after that I understood what to do and it wasn't too difficult. -_- The second part was pretty good, I like it becomes it involves some strategy. The last part was kinda ehhh since I really felt like I didn't know what I was doing, but at least I passed. @_@

Again, thanks a bunch <3 You're a real hero -_-

I have been attempting the ranger test a few times, I got past the annoying poring shoot, got past the bomb part, then my desert wolf puppy just kind of dissappeared during the thrid test when I sent it after an egg in the top right area. So I went to start over...did the poring part again, then went to read my quest info...and as soon as I click on it the game crashes. It crashed everytime I try to read the quest "to a place for taking a practical techniq" the rest is cut off so the name might be longer.

When did that happened? Like, was it before or after yesterday's maint/patch? They said they were fixing quest log stuffs for 3rd job change so maybe they fixed that one yesterday...

I just used CTRL+Shift to angle the camera down so I spent less time moving my cursor to read the names of the monsters. This is from yesterday; I angled back up when the test was done:

I don't remember my irowiki account. :'D

Feel free to post it there if you have an account and knows how to edit a mediawiki wiki.
