New player with noob questions...

Questions... Well actually, I just wanted to ask if there are some popular nooby mistakes that most people make when creating/leveling their characters that I should look out for, since I'd rather not play for a week and then realize I need to start over (like i did when i realized birthdays meant something in ether saga)... So is there anything important I should know from the start? Should I assume that my first character won't turn out precisely right? I'm mainly asking so I know if I should use my first choice name up...
Basically, I guess I'm asking for generic noob advice. =]

Lol, in my opinion is the champ the best character to start with, strong easy and simple. U shoudl make a cleric and a champ and party them togheterh with dual clienting ^^.
Maybe, but I'm not really a fan of the typical warrior classes.

I'm downloading the game right now. I was interested in the Dealer class but I figure that wouldn't be a good class to start with for my first character, so I think I'll make a Hawker...

You can always delete the character later, wait 24 hours and remake your preferred class.
ummm some pointer, let me think
Arua's Fairy in Adven ture plains can give you alot of good advice, ask her question and search every topic she has to offer, she can even give you a few extra statpoints once.
Do not spend your statpoints until you are lvl 10, you will do fine lvln to 10 without them and once you have your job you can get whatever one you need.
Pick up every drop you can get from the monsters you kill, we all start out with a little bit of zulie and everything helps to make it grow.
Catalysts and chemicals are worth more sold to other players in shops then to the npc. Looks for shops or just hoard until you get the lay out of the game/ market.
Partying increases your exp becuase you will get exp for the monsters other people kill, as the party increases in lvl so does the exp gained from every monsters, dont shy from parties.
Dont spend a ton of money on some item you will probably outlvl fast. The first 50 lvls go by just fine with minimal equipment ( NPC bought), maybe a nice weapon.
Feel free to ask anyone ingame a question if you dont know how to go further, ask nicely and they might feel like giving more. Asking for buffs from clerics can help you lvl alot faster and feel like a killing machine but always be nice, some clerics get tired from the constant BUFFS PLOXXXXXX and just ignore it.
Follow the monsters colours, purple and red is hard but with a party doable, if its not too high ( purple is alot stronger then you) yellow and green are easy and you could solo them.
Try and explore, sometimes you can find a better place to lvl if you just try and fight some other mobs, some monsters may give alot of exp, but if it takes you ages to kill one you might as well kill 4 lesser ones in half the time for more.

1st character-
start with a dealer or a soldier(spear preferably)
if you want to start with a hawker start with a dual swords or scout
KATARS are very hard to lvl up ( no aoe and not so good soloing power)
if you are goin to play continous for a long time then ur char doesnt matter
and then maybe katars can be a good idea if you are gonna lvl fast
BUT.....if you playin in like 1-2 hrs intervals then a good AOE class is way better as you cant afford to spend time asking for party every now and then
DEALER is a great job class and if you take it 1st make sure you get the summons hunters (they dont leech exp)
with them you can solo bosses and get good drops so its a good 1st choice char
