If you've encountered problems with your DS client here are some simple solutions to try that will usually fix your problem.

1. Repatch DS.
This can be done by going to you DS folder and deleteing patch.id, after that run the patcher again. Please be patient and let it finish patching as it will sometimes take a while for it to patch.(more detailed instructions are found in 2nd post)

2. Restalling DS.

3. Download the Alternative.
This can by done here.

All the guides are done with a Windows 7(64bit) OS and Default installation.

Replying to Fix to the installation package could not be opened error.

Anyone recognize this? hmmm.png I've had trouble with this error loads of time and finally found out how to fix it.
1.Go to start and go to run (for xp users) or just search (for 7 and vista users) type services.msc.
2.Look for windows installer. Then right click it and go to properties.ess_install_err6b_s.jpg
3.Make sure that everything is according to this. ess_install_err5a_s.jpg
4.Click apply and ok and go to playdragonsaga.com and use the direct download. If it doesn't work again, try again, if you did everything according to here again, and it doesn't work....sorry :)

"You are not allowed to view this content"

If this error message is being received, this means one of the following:

1. Your location has been denied service either due to legal agreements that were signed.

or

2. You are connected in some way or form to a highly suspicious location.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you currently are connected from some part of Europe or South East Asia, then that means you have been blocked for #1. Legal contracts require us to deny service to those regions as there are other versions of Dragon Saga in those areas.

The denial of service is in regards to creating accounts specifically for Dragon Saga. This does not prohibit currently created or previously created accounts from accessing the game servers. Therefore, if the account was created in some way or form, the account can access the game servers.

If you "DO NOT" live in one of these areas mentioned above, then there is a connection to some ill-mannered activity from where you are connecting from. Please contact customer support by clicking the link here to attempt to resolve your issue.

Legit Fix: Avast! Users with client crash error.

I just submitted a topic explaining that my client kept crashing, I actually did a little digging myself and found a way to make my client work again.
If you are an Avast! User like me.. you can simply follow these few steps and it SHOULD fix your client crashes...

1.) Locate your patcher location... for me it was under:

2.) Open your Avast! virus protection interface

3.) locate your sandbox :

4.) Copy and paste the patcher location into exceptions section under auto sand box.

5.) Go to the top right corner of the interface, and click the Wrench Icon : SETTINGS.
settings.png
6.) Find the Exclusions tab: once again, copy and paste your patcher location into the exclusions section.

If your client still won't work it is recommend you do this step :
Locate your Avast! System icon, now right click it

1.) Click Avast! Shields control

interface.png

2.) Disable your shields for 10 minutes.

3.) Restart your client.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND : When shields are down, you should probably stay away from browsing the internet for awhile. ONLY go to trusted sites, but please remember even Facebook can give you a virus...

I hope this fixes most of the Avast! user's problems with Client crashes,

Happy Gaming!

Korean Error when trying to patch

If you're receiving a korean error when you open the patcher try this
Open game folder (ex. C:\Program Files\Gravity\Dragon Saga), delete the file Patcher.exe, Rename Patcher2.exe to Patcher.exe. Run Dragon Saga again and it will start patching.
It should fix it.

Failed to Patch

Thank you Rimmy and Staff member Vandeve for posting the previous thread. I wanted to clean it up a bit and it was at 22 pages. The New Origins patch is fairly large patch. Many things have changed in-game. If you were playing prior to 09/02, then you will likely notice a large difference once you are able to get in game. Since you are having issues getting into the game, there are several key things to look for that we'll go over below.

Key Issues:
Issue: I was previously playing the game before 09/02. I was patching and reached 99%, but it failed to patch. When I tried to patch again, it didn't recognize the patch and let me login. After I selected the channel, my client crashed.

Fix: Since you could not complete the patching, you are missing files. Once the game tries to find those files or tries to activate it, it crashes the game. To solve this, go to C:\Program Files\Gravity\Dragon Saga and find the file called "patch.id". Delete "patch.id" and then run(double click) "Patcher.exe". This will tell the client to re-download your patches. It may take some time for it to set up the Client list. This should also fix any corrupted files as it will run through and try to get all the appropriate files.

Issue: I tried to start my client, but I received a Runtime error.

Fix: Runtime errors occur for several reasons. The most predominant one is the fact that something may be memory intensive. This causes the client to crash and provide a run time error. There are several things you can do.
A. You can reduce the number of excess programs running. Turn off browsers, other games, videos, and anything else that is not important to run. Try running the client after these have been turned down.

B. Try the methods provided here: Runtime Error Help

Issue: I have started the patcher, but the progress bar/rate has not been moving.

Fix: Several things may be hindering this.
A.Since there are typically new files involved with most games for updates, the PC may not be recognizing the files. You can...

  • Try checking the firewall, anti-virus, malware, and spyware programs to ensure that they do not see anything Dragon Saga related as a threat.
  • If you must, disable them temporarily to see if there is any progress.
B. Your connection may not be stable. You can...
Run a tracert report to see if there are any lines with a (*) in them. This represents some form of misconnection or instability. To do so, follow the steps below:
  • Close all programs (very important for the accuracy of your results)
  • Open up a command prompt window (start/programs/accessories/command prompt)
  • Type: "tracert iro.ragnarokonline.com" (without the quotes)
  • Hit the enter key and let the trace run until it displays triple * symbols multiple times in a row. Then, press control-C.
  • Right-click in the window, and choose mark. Then, highlight the entire window contents with the mouse. Press control-C, open an instance of notepad, and paste it there. At the top of this file, please write the current date and time, including the time zone in which you reside.

C. Making sure that your ports have been set to be open for proper connection and download. The ports can be found here: Client/Connection Issues

Issue: My client continually crashes, I get bugged out at the character select screen, or I tried re-patching, but it is not working.

Fix: It is possible that your installation is corrupted. If this is the case, you should do a clean re-installation. In order to do a clean installation, please follow the steps below:
Uninstall Dragon Saga by pressing the Start or Window icon in the bottom left of your screen. Go to Programs>Dragon Saga>Uninstall. Do not delete the client as that leaves potential registry files that can cause the client to remain corrupted after installing a new client.
Delete or remove all files that are Dragon Saga related. These files could be the reason why the client is corrupt.
Download a new installer either on the Dragon Saga Website or the Alternative Installer Download. A new installer should be added early next week with the New Origins on it.
You may also download the alternative client that is closest to New Origins, however, please follow the steps carefully in the thread here: Alternative Client v.0.1.46

If any other issues may be occurring, please check the pinned topics in the Technical Support Section before posting.

Good Luck!

Fix for Dragon Saga (I/N) has stopped working!

Well I was messing around with gateway yesterday and got the gateway is not responding error message similar to the one that you get with the game.exe but it popped up a balloon that said data execution prevention has blocked this program from running or something like that. So it sparked my curiosity giving that I've seen this happen with other games in the past and it did in fact end up being just a script flaw that causes DEP to catch it. Well I've been uninstalling/reinstalling, redownloading/patching for 2 days and kinda got tired of it. So figured I would try something different went into the dep settings and added dragonsaga.exe to the exception list and low and behold it ran just fine straight from the patcher, straight from the install folder you name it.

How you do this is
Hit Start
Right click Computer
Click properties
In the left pane click advanced system settings
-under the advanced tab in the performance box click the settings button
-go to the Data Execution Prevention tab
-click the bullet next to "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:"
-click add browse to your dragon saga install folder, go to the release folder and add dragonsaga.exe

Yes I'm on a vista machine and from all the posts dating back to the start of this problem seems to be where they are happening and most likely the same reason for 7 if there are similar problems. This is a temporary fix yes but works like a charm none the less and points to the source of the problem. Which I would believe to be a script flaw likely in the dragonsaga.exe file itself where the patcher always works regardless. This same thing happened to me with dragon age: origins one time and this is how i fixed it. To beat it all I'm still running both my Comodo firewall and Avira antivirus, nor did I set dragon saga to run for xp sp2 compat runs just like it should. If you want to know what dep actually does check out this link.

DEP kb

So more or less when the executable is opened it is attempting to access a protected zone and is thus shot down. Not sure why it would do this, I'm no programmer or anything just technically savvy. But check it out for yourself I've done about everything I could think of trying to get this to work from these forums. Hope this helps some people get to play and our devs to trudge their way to the heart of the problem.

Users is not a valid group problem FIX.

Since no one bothered to do this I shall once again take the spotlight and help out our dear fellow players : )

The tutorial is picture based, if you want a more clean and simple one:

1. Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management and then expanding System

2. Tools>Local Users and Groups>Groups. Right click Groups and choose New Group, name it "Users"

The reason for the error you get when you try to install the game is because, on some non-English operating systems, the installer is not able to find the Users group. To complete the installation a Users group must be created. This can be done by following the tutorial I have provided for you guys.

Spoiler

P.S: Would a mod be kind enough to pin this? Thanks.
