As I always enjoy playing the healer I naturally made a priest to be my first character, currently only a level 21 aco I"m finding it IMPOSSIBLE to level because of one small issue.

I am in the middle of auto-attacking when I try to cast heal, I FAIL to cast, stop attacking and the skill never casts. I have to break combat and heal, by then I am damaged again.

This could be lag, but I don't understand why it's so bad... help?

Uhh, back when I was still an aco this always happened to me while attacking so I don't think it's a bug or anything. In fact, it has always been like this since first (I play RO since about 5 years ago but in another server). Maybe try to be a FS (full support, means to aid others in a party) or heal urself after u defeat the monster?

Attempting to use a targeted skill is not sufficient to disengage autoattack (control+click or /nc and left single click). If you need to heal while fighting, your only option is to disengage auto-attack, and fight continuously by left click and HOLDING the left mouse button down to attack, releasing the left button to immediately stop attacking, and then use your heal skill. OR, click to move after auto-attacking, use heal, and re-engage auto-attack.

TL;DR: The heal skill requires your acolyte's concentration and cannot be performed while in the midst of swinging your weapon.

yep.. thats why i never autoattack when i KNOW that i might have to dissengage to heal or cast something big.. in those cases i either hold down the mouse button untill i need to heal.. or.. if i DO autoattack i get in the habit of taking a step back before i try and heal

I see, so it's a feature not a bug.. does that mean if I made a Knight, I would have NO problem using Bash mid swing? If so that's a relief and it's not my end causing it.

I'm just dying way to much to poporings, I have sufficient heal but I'm not good enough to use it. I get a ton of position lag, like I'll run away but once I move again I'll spring back to the poporing who is attacking at thin air (i'm actually there).

No, a knight cannot change his attack from a normal melee attack to a bash mid-swing, he or she will need to disengage long enough to concentrate his or her energy into this powerful attack.

If I had to guess I'd say you're not wearing eden armor. If you're 12 or higher, do the quests Instructor Boya gives, and you'll be given an armor that increases your max HP. you should survive several hits from a poporing.

Try just spamming heal on yourself twice. The first attempt will stop your auto attack, the second will heal you.

You could use a few potions until you're a higher level, makes things a lot easier and faster.

Potions have helped massively, because my heal is really bad. When I cancel my autoattack I seem to swing ONE LAST TIME, the animation doesn't show, but I still can't heal until hits are traded and I am dead.

But I can't afford potions, this is my first character. Giving up for the time being on playing priest .. unless someone wants to team up sometime later.

Do some Eden stuffs. Some of the lower level quests give freebie novice red pots.

its def hard to have a priest as ur first char, since u have no real source of zeny and are relying on other ppl for parties to get what loots they dont pick up.. if i was u, id make a theif for ur first char, they are very easy to level and can get u a lot of zeny quick with steal and such.. dodge a lot of stuff and have nice atk speed.

I feel much better now, with the advice people have given to do the Eden quests. The slight resistance and +100 HP let me tank at least 2 or 3 more hits, plenty of time to disengage and heal as long as I'm not really lagging. Now a 25/26 Acolyte, I am mostly avoiding the Eden quests right now, as I want my job level to be high and I want to decide on my final skills at level 40, when the skill reset is free. So far I am happy, my friend is playing now so he can snipe stuff while I provide buffs and MSpeed.

I seem to remember casting heal mid-attack I guess I was wrong, I think I remember spamming heal while doing Holy Light or some other attack, just fine.

If you do all the quests at the novice starting place you can get like 400 free novice pots that will last you quite some time
