Hi there,
I'm working on some new faces for my client, just editing some of the dds's to see what i can make, made a sharingan one so far from naruto, and was wondering....
How can i add it to my VFS without breaking my client.
Iv'e heard that using genfs will allow me to add this custom content but iv'e never used it before, im a bit of a dev when it comes to things like this so I wanted to show off some of my work, however, to do this is need to have a stable client with my custom content added in so i can see it real time in game.
Is this allowed?
if so
How can I successfully add my dds to my client / VFS without breaking it
All info welcomed
Kind regards

I have no idea in this matter, but to be able to see things you made in game (only client sided, not in the game itself) is something Feuer did before, you should ask him.

You can ask him on this thread.

Or look for his profile and send him a pm.

The simple answer is you should not, modification of the game client files is not going to put a smile on my face, and probably but a sad frown on your face as well.
If you are interested in submitting ideas, then I can provide a template for you to work on, but you won't be able to test them yourself sadly.

Oh didn't know that wasn't allowed, but if you say so, he'll have to work with templates I guess. Should be possible too.

Ok sure cal i'll use your templates if thats ok...I'll not say anything more about client side editing from now on
I take it feuer is either using an offline test client or has some kind of special permission to be able to do those modifications
I'd be gratefull If you could send me the info I need for the templates ect via a pm.
Kind regards
Shadow

wouldn't it be possible to do this via texmod? It seems like the sort of thing that texmod is designed for, but I haven't used it particularly much. What the program does is it allows you to grab textures from in game (client side) and replace them with other things (still client-side) when you're running it through texmod. I don't think that this would violate any rules as per Calanor's statement, as it doesn't directly modify any of the client files, but rather intervenes in the display to put them on for you. This was something that was used to a limited degree in Guild Wars, but I wouldn't be surprised if it worked here too.
I don't know if there's a problem with outside links, but you can read a little bit about it here: http://wiki.guildwar...graphics/Texmod

Precisely as calanor said. The only reason I havnt been punished for my actions is because over 3 years I have never broken my promise to disclose how I test them in game. However yes it is indeed a frowned upon action so you have been warned from calanor and myself. If he gives you a template I would urge you to use that just saying
