In my case i have a +7 Claire suits, that would only add defense if i make it +9 (i dont really know how much).
You can also count this as if im using odins blessing or some other "normal armor" that doesnt give you bonus for overupgrading.

Does it worth the money spent for the extra defense? Or better stick to +7? (with enriched hammer, that would be for arround 40M)
Even further... does it even worth from +4 to +7? (that would be arround 1M/2M)

Same goes for the shield (bluckler) or for the shoes (boots).

In your claire suit's case Id say leave it at 7 buckler and boots are in the same boat (unless your going to put a firelock soldier card in them then go +9 on the boots)but for the most part, people just +9 gears for an effect or to put a card in it that needs a certian upgrade level to work. Upgrade defense is not really good currently.

Getting gears to +9 is pretty cheap now with Enriched hammer. I say go for it if you got some zeny to throw away but if you don't, +7 is fine. It will not make a difference between life and death. Never use HD ores since their rates are crap.

Enriched hammer takes, on average, 40 enriched ores to get from +7 to +9. This is probably enough that you wouldn't want to bother with it unless it's something that you're going to be using a lot, but it all depends how much $/zeny you have to throw around.

Yeah only bother if the gear or card on the gear benefits from increased levels. Like a CoD is worth getting to +9, but boots or a buckler? Not so much... I think you get 1 1/2 extra defense for the 40-60mil zeny that would cost you.

Then there is some gear that benefits from going even higher. For example I got my Hat of Fortune to +12 because of the extra LUK it provide, but man was it a pain in the ass. Especially considering that I used HD Elu instead of Enirched Elu. Don't ever do that - huge mistake.

Normal boots... No.

Black Leather... Maybe. The +2 AGI due to putting it on +9 is cool, and putting Thanatos Odium for additional AGI... yeah.
