After my time playing RO I came to the conclusion that everyone I met in RO were guys until proven otherwise.
How would you prove it then?
Simple. Boobs or GTFO.

I'm a girl. Is it bad to act like one? Or is it detestable to play like a man?

If I don't actually know them, I automatically assume they're a guy.

I think assuming someone's sex is somewhat irrelevant since you aren't going to be bumping uglies with any of these people and gender is a state of self identification so you should adhere to whatever they say they are and don't treat them preferentially by assumed sex and you won't have a reason to regret taking people at face value.

Actually the majority of females, as characterized by many who shall remain nameless are a lot of the reason I disassociate myself from having a gender on the internet.
Say what you will about it being a state of self identification, but it's only true to a degree. Cultural influences, chemical and just general brain wiring mean that men and women act quite differently from eachother.
I find it quite easy to identify them apart via text alone. An argument with a female is approached in a very different way to an arguement with a man (unironically, unless they are very emotional on the manscale of emotions, then it becomes more like arguing with a female)
Trust me - there is no way anyone could mistake you for a man. (Unless they saw your stupid face.)

In general, what I am saying is, gender doesn't actually matter on RO (unless you want a non-gimped performer), but you'll find it guiding you socially.
But because of the way people think and emotions are different-- you're going to end up interacting differently with men and women.
But at the same time, if someone says they are male and act male, and someone says they are female and act female-- why would you try and make different assertions about their sex? As long as you're not trying to cyberflux their capacitors in PM or stalk them on facebook, both which would make you a creepy loser, their irl sex doesn't matter. The only time I see people fuming over this is if they gift some dancer a ton of items and follow her like a puppy and then find out she was a guy actign cute for free -- why were you giving her free to begin with? This is the problem, don't treat women preferentially online if you're a guy, or vice versa if you're a girl don't hang over some guy and give him all your time (or inverted roles if you're not straight, whatever I am not going to list every example!).
Also your face is dumber than this thread.
