I think this is some kind of "collision" box on characters that is usualy invisible but when your gfx/textures are glitched it may become visible when materials/textures are switched (seen it before)

Nah collision box errors tend to throw the texture off screen rather then localize it to one area.

Id like to say she shopped really good getting the white color behind her name so perfect and keeping the perfect nameshadowing and font.

I saw this box few times before (years ago) when Yuki had glitchy gfx card (glitchy only in Rose)
sometimes it would throw chat window* on sky, sometimes would be on ground sometimes on invisible colision meshes around maps and sometimes this box around player became visible
* all textures were mixed up not just chat textbox
