Hey all,

I used to play RO a few years back and never had a merch. I just started playing again and things seemed to have changed ALOT since last I played.. am having to relearn everything. I have been searching through the forums and cant seem to find what I am looking for (perhaps im blind in one eye and cant see out the other?). Anyway.. I am looking to make a merchant>>alch>>>bio to help make zenny before I really start working on other classes, I have checked the stickies for new merch.. unfortunately, they are kinda confusing me a bit. I understand everyone has their own play style so stat and skill choices are vastly varied.

Here is what I am looking to do.. I want a merch class that can make good zenny, and make pots / other materials, to best supplement various other classes that I will be playing. From what I am seeing, and please correct me if I am wrong, but merch>alch>bio is the best choice for support / zenny making, ive seen many posts stating that smiths and what not are fairly worthless in later lvls.

I am still looking through different forums, trying to learn and figure out the game again, so any and all help with stats, skills, production, etc, would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,
Kalumn

EDIT: PS: I am on yggdrasil server if that makes a difference lol.

Making potions does not make money if you don't have access to god items and other resources that you don't have. Making non-potion potion-like items isn't really worth it either. So - don't make an alchemist to make money by potting. It doesn't take much math to figure out that even with 100% rates, there is no money in normal potions, and nobody wants to buy unranked blue potions (and getting ranked requires an investment in the billions and god items).

The reason you need a merchant class in order to make money is just for vending items you find, and for buying/reselling items (plus saving money on NPC items via DC). Genetic is the best class for vending (so merch -> alch -> bio -> gen) because they get cart remodel (so more stuff in cart to vend) and cart boost (for walking fast while doing errands).... But yeah for the near term, all you need is a simple merchant to perform vending/etc tasks to support your other chars.

That is one thing I have read alot of is lack of money in pots, wasnt really looking to make money in that fashion, but figured the making of pots for my other characters would be an added bonus, or are they not even worth that?

White herbs vend for 1k, more than the npc sells white potions for. Hence, NOBODY can make a profit on those.
Reds and yellows are not worth talking about (if there's any profit, it's not worth the time spent potting)
Slims barely profit for the rankers with full potting gear, because rankers _have_ to make slims to get ranked
Blues are not really worth making, since the rates will be low and nobody wants to use blues made by non-ranked potter.

So yeah, bearing in mind that building to create potions effectively comes at a very high cost (you have to use a build that's much harder to level), it's not a good idea to try to get into that. The situation changes a bit as a genetic - potions made using Special Pharmacy have higher margins, no ranking system, and a less liquid market (so more opportunities) - But most importantly, a genetic requires fewer compromises in their build in order to do spec pharm at decent rates (since they need high int/dex already).
